Civic Resource Group Founder and CEO, Gregory G. Curtin, Ph.D. among the winners of the ‘Vision Award’ at the World Economic Summit
LOS ANGELES, Calif., Nov. 19, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Civic Resource Group (CRG) Founder & CEO, Gregory G. Curtin, Ph.D. attended the World Economic Forum Summit on the Global Agenda held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on November 9 – 12 and as a member of The Future of Government Council was among the winners of the “Vision Award” for the Future of Government Smart Toolbox, a report published in June 2014 that addresses the ways technology can help governments improve services, security, transparency and innovation.
The Vision Award is an inaugural award introduced by the World Economic Forum (WEF) to mark and recognize excellence in two distinctive areas. One is developing breakthrough ideas and the other for examples of high impact collaborative action. According to the Forum, “The Future of Government Smart Toolbox demonstrates how technology can enhance government performance by strengthening efforts to reduce corruption and bureaucracy and enhance political representation, service delivery, trust, leadership, security and innovation. The report highlights successful practices from around the globe in the digital era.”
The Future of Government Council developed the idea of the “Future of Government Smart Toolbox” to “offer governments and other interested sector leaders a guide for restoring trust in government for delivering better services through smart cities, through smart national governments at all levels of government for information societies and economies” said Jane E. Fountain, Distinguished Professor of Political Science and Public Policy and adjunct professor of Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a fellow Vision Award winner and colleague of Dr. Curtin’s on the Global Agenda Council on the Future of Government.
In addition to founding and directing Civic Resource Group, a leading global provider of digital government solutions, Dr. Curtin has been a member of the Future of Government Council since its inception in 2006 and was a major contributor to the Smart Toolbox. Dr. Curtin founded Civic Resource Group to address the real business needs of Public/Civic sector entities in the Digital Age, and with the recent acquisition of Dublin, Ireland, based i3t Mobile, Civic Resource Group is expanding globally with its innovative CivicConnect(TM) SmartGov Platform — a first-of-kind fully integrated Mobile/Cloud/Data First Platform. Dr. Curtin has brought this visionary perspective along with deep digital expertise to the Future of Government Council, one of more than 80 Global Agenda Councils that form the World Economic Forum Global Network.
“The genius of the World Economic Forum is that it brings together a wide variety of experts and practitioners from the private sector, academia, government and civil society to work together collaboratively to address key issues, problems and challenges facing global society today,” said Curtin who has also previously worked in government and academia.
Over its next two year term the Future of Government Council plans to leverage the Smart Toolbox to convene governments from across the globe to learn and share innovative digital strategies and solutions, and to gradually build a Future of Government community. This will be done in concert with World Economic Forum regional meetings in order to extend some of the Future of Government practices and ideas deeper in each region of the globe. There are also tentative discussions around developing a competition or a prize for government innovation.

LOS ANGELES, Calif., Oct. 30, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — When Wayne Fromm invented the Quik Pod(R) (U.S. patent #7,684,694), the original selfie stick, more than 10 years ago, he had no idea how popular selfies would become.
In fact, according to an article in Psychology Today, selfies have redefined how we document experiences. Selfies build relationships because they provide a powerful sense of intimacy through the authenticity that comes from the ownership of the lens by the subject. Selfies are about “being there” and sharing the moment.
“As a result, selfie sticks, also known as selfie poles, have begun to flood the market,” Fromm says. “However, the popularity of the selfie stick can be traced to the extreme sports community – mostly Go-Pro users – who wanted to get a greater scope into their images at better resolutions. The Quik Pod enabled them to do that.”
Not all selfie sticks are created equal. The original Quik Pod brand of selfie sticks is designed for strength, durability, inclement weather conditions, saltwater and to not rattle or shake. There are now a large number of low quality poles in the market that copy the look of the original but are grossly inferior. “No one wants their camera to end up at the bottom of the ocean,” Fromm says.
Imagine the amazing holiday selfies families and friends could take? Quik Pod selfie sticks can be used with all types of cameras from smartphones, point and shoot and mirrorless cameras to all action, DSLR and GoPro. The Quik Pod ULTRA converts from handheld selfie stick to a tripod or ground supported monopod. Prices start at $19.99.
So, during this holiday season, remember that to give is better than to receive, give a gift of quality and share your selfies while you do it.
Quik Pod offers the following tips for taking the best selfies ever:
* Consider the amount of motion in your activity. The longer the Pod, the less stable the action shots will likely be.
* Understand the scope of your image. The further the Quik Pod is extended, the broader the image’s background will be. Think about whether emotion or surroundings are the capture focus.
* Practice makes perfect. Play with it. Try holding the Quik Pod at a different angle, or experiment with different extension lengths.
* Live it up. Without action, there are no awesome action shots to capture. Scuba diving in the Caribbean? Parachuting across the Midwest? The photo possibilities are only as endless as your imagination.
* Use the Quik Pod built-in selfie mirror to center yourself in your shots

LOS ANGELES, Calif., Oct. 29, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — “SuperFly – My Untold Story of Hip-Hop” (ISBN: 978-0991356010), authored by Gloria Goldwater, pulls back the curtain on how the popular hip-hop magazine, SuperFly, that launched in the early 90s, came to be and why it ultimately folded.
SuperFly was the result of Gloria’s passion for rhythm and blues which evolved into a love affair with hip-hop. Her connections and relationships formed during her marriage to John Goldwater, creator of Archie Comics, were what ultimately provided her with the resources to publish this hip-hop legend.
A 294-page book, “SuperFly: My Untold Story of Hip-Hop,” details Gloria’s rise to publishing success, and also reveals the heartbreaking situation that led to the magazine’s shutdown, right in the midst of its popularity.
Gloria shares rare anecdotes about an industry where, at first glance, she appeared out of her element. She gives readers candid accounts about the hip-hop music scene as well as personal insight into her various relationships with the artists.
Readers will revel in never-before-published photos taken at exclusive events with celebrities such as Queen Latifah, LL Cool J, Ice T, MC Hammer, Dr. Dre, and many others.
Many of these hip-hop artists became fast friends with Gloria and they forged meaningful and lasting friendships. Rhythm and blues artists such as Bobby Brown, Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson also graced the pages of SuperFly magazine. The book chronicles it all.
“SuperFly – My Untold Story of Hip-Hop” begins with an overview of the evolution of hip-hop from society’s fringe into the mainstream. It then goes on to describe the development and subsequent launch of SuperFly, the celebrity-drenched SuperFly years, and the post-SuperFly life.
“Rappers used to come to my office all the time, and I must admit, I loved it,” Goldwater says. “We became like a family.”
The book includes free downloadable bonus material, including digitized copies of original print SuperFly magazines, an original video from Gloria’s cable television show, “Crashing New York” and never-before released textual and audio interviews featuring Tupac, Tony!, Toni!, Tone!, N.W.A., Flavor Flav and more.
“SuperFly – My Untold Story of Hip-Hop” (ISBNs: 978-0-9913560-0-3 Hardcover, 978-0-9913560-1-0 Softcover and 976-0-9913560-2-7 e-book) is available in hard cover, soft cover and e-book format. The book can be purchased on Amazon, Borders, Barnes and Noble and on numerous other online sites and bookstores.

LOS ANGELES, Calif., Oct. 28, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — It’s not hard to lose money in Las Vegas says VegasTourism.com. Remember the phrase, “The house always wins”? For the most part, gone are the days when hotel/casino heads figured that if they could get the tourists there, they’d spend so much money gambling it was worth it to sell prime rib plates for $4.99 and offer cheap entertainment.
Now, buffets can run as high as $50 a person, and many shows along the strip are pushing $100 or more per ticket. But, with proper planning, it is possible to find discounted, cheap and free activities in Vegas. Here’s a short guide for those visiting Vegas on a budget.
Hotels Deals in Vegas:
If you plan far enough ahead in advance of your trip, it’s possible to get some great hotel deals online. These are available primarily by signing up to become a member of rewards programs, such as Total Rewards, offered by Caesars Entertainment; or M Life, offered by MGM Resorts. Sign up online several months before your trip, and discounted hotel rates for all the hotels that are part of these rewards programs will start heading your way within a couple of weeks. Find More Deals at http://vegastourism.com/category/hotels-casinos/ . Once in Vegas, pick up your Total Rewards or M Life cards at your hotel and use the card whenever you gamble, buy souvenirs at the hotel gift shop or eat at eligible restaurants to earn points that can be cashed in for play money and other freebies.
Save Money on Food:
There are some fabulous buffets in Vegas, and they carry a fancy price tag. To save money, consider purchasing the Buffet of Buffets, a 24-hour pass accepted at several hotels: Caesars Palace; Flamingo; Planet Hollywood; Bally’s; Imperial Palace; Paris; The Rio; and Harrah’s.
The cost is $44.99 for Total Rewards members – signing up for Total Rewards is free and can be done online or at any Total Rewards hotel – and $49.99 for non-members. For Special Deals view VegasTourism’s website.
Although this may seem pricey, these buffets run around $20 to $50 per person per visit, and the pass allows you to eat as many times as you want in a 24-hour period, so it’s possible to save start money after just one or two visits. The pass expires 24 hours after it is purchased, so it’s a good idea to purchase it prior to breakfast; then try to eat that day’s three meals and attend breakfast before the pass expires the next morning. That’s four meals for about $50, including tax. Not a bad deal!
It’s also worth noting that drinks – soft drinks, beer, wine and some cocktails – are FREE while gambling at most casinos, but it’s expected that servers should be tipped at least $1 per drink.

LOS ANGELES, Calif., July 1, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — When the John Dellroy Band cranks it up on stage, audiences are treated to a melodic onslaught. “We rock, but with folk and electronic influences, and the melodies are designed to let you hum along immediately and even sing with us after you hear the hook just a couple of times,” states lead vocalist John Dellroy.
Calling their sound “alternative folk-rock without limits,” the John Dellroy Band is unafraid to go from hard-charging rock to a reflective ballad while zooming through a set-list that contains numbers featuring a full range of modern pop styles.
“It is so exciting to be able to play in this band,” Dellroy states, “especially the way the guys can blend hard rock with electronica, intricate vocal harmonies, and even a touch of country now and then.” Their sound has been described as a combination of “intimate and gritty.” On their recent European tour, the band performed rock and acoustic sets, depending on the venue.
Their first full-length CD, “A New Life Has Begun,” was released in 2013 on Poolman Records. The 11-track album was produced by Thomas Mora and has seen a radio edit of “Time” achieve very strong download action, including reaching #1 at Musicload and #55 on the iTunes Pop chart.
Theirs is a total commitment to music. As Dellroy states, “Life without music is an empty, soulless place.” In addition to touring in support of the album and single releases, the band is working with producer Peter Roberts to launch new singles into the North American market.
ABOUT THE JOHN DELLROY BAND:
Formed five years ago in Europe, the Austrian/American/Australian group consists of John Dellroy on vocals, acoustic guitar, and harp; Franz Konigshofer on electric guitar and backing vocals; Daniel Salecich on violin, keyboards, and backing vocals; Peter Volker on bass; and Mike ‘Drummer’ Pawlowitsch on percussion.
ABOUT PETER ROBERTS:
Peter Roberts is a multiple award winning songwriter and producer who has received Grammy(R) nominations for “Song of the Year,” “Album Of The Year,” “Record Of The Year,” “Best Song written for a Motion Picture Soundtrack,” and “Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.”

MONROVIA, Calif., March 27, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Five young women from Monrovia High School and their rhinestone-encrusted robot qualified to advance to the 2014 First Tech Challenge Robotics World Championships as a result of their strong performance at the West Super-Regional Robotics Tournament held near Sacramento at the former McClellan Air Force Base this past weekend, the Monrovia High School Robotics Program announced today.
The Monrovia team, the only qualifier from the Los Angeles area, joins three San Diego teams and four Northern California teams to be among the 128 top teams from around the world to compete at the First Robotics World Championships to be held at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis April 23-26, 2014.
A total of 24 teams advanced from the West Super-Regional including teams from Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Colorado, Nevada, and Arizona.
These five junior class women – the “Kings and Queens” team – stand out not just for their signature costumes of purple-velvet-and gold-embroidered renaissance dresses and the purple and gold medieval royal pavilion where the team relaxes between matches. Their purple robot “Your Highness” performed flawlessly during the competition even after a failure of the robot’s transport cart sent it plunging to the floor of the arena in an unplanned four-foot “drop test.” In fact, during the crucial and difficult software-controlled “autonomous period” of the matches, Your Highness achieved a perfect record of 10 of 10 successful autonomous runs scoring an average of 56 autonomous points per match out of a possible 60.
The members of the Kings And Queens team – Amanda Sullivan, Melissa Johnson, Emma McIntosh, Jordan Nunez and Nicole Miller – designed and built their 18 by 18 inch robot from Tetrix parts, Plexiglas, metal shapes and machined aluminum to compete with alliances of robots on a 12 by 12 foot field. In competitions the robots are required to perform a variety of tasks in 2-1/2 minutes including picking up 2-inch plastic cubes and depositing them into elevated goals, navigating a wooden ramp, raising a flag up a pole, and gripping a cross bar and pulling themselves up completely off the floor, all while coordinating with a partner robot and while sharing the field with an opposing team of robots intent on accomplishing the same tasks.
This marks the first trip to the world championships for Monrovia High School’s four-year-old FTC robotics program which fields four separate student robotics teams supported by company sponsors, the community, and parents, and is led by physics teacher Tom Dobson. The success of the Kings And Queens caps a strong year for Monrovia High which saw all four of the program’s teams qualify over the season to compete in the Los Angeles Regional Championship Tournament held in Monrovia in February. At the L.A. regional tournament the Kings And Queens team was awarded the Inspire Award, FTC Robotics highest award naming them the “role-model” team for their on-field success, teamwork, inspiration to others, representation of the First Robotics program to their school and community, and embodiment of “Gracious Professionalism,” the core value of the FIRST program.
The Monrovia High FTC robotics after-school program is one of many opportunities at Monrovia High School supporting STEM education (science, technology, engineering, and math) in conjunction with Monrovia’s Math and Science Academy, and supported by the Monrovia Schools Foundation.
The Monrovia High School FTC robotics program is actively seeking tax-deductible donations and company sponsorships to help cover the approximate $13,000 cost of taking the team to St. Louis in April. Donations may be made through our GoFundMe page at http://www.gofundme.com/75ehc4 .

LOS ANGELES, Calif., Jan. 23, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — On February 14, Valentines Day, most people think of romance, flowers, candy, and candlelit dinners. But children also celebrate by sending and receiving valentines, dreaming up DIY projects for their parents, siblings, and teachers — and they are definitely pleased about the candy!
“Children’s parties are a way to celebrate this delightful holiday and that’s where Ruth Roberts Music can help,” states Susan Nicoletti, Director of Operations for Goldenrod Music, the publishing company overseeing Roberts’ songs. She is pleased to direct parents and teachers to the album “Valentine Songs That Tickle Your Funny Bone,” available on iTunes.
“When Ruth Roberts put the finishing touches on her series of children’s albums for all major American holidays, she included Valentine’s Day as worthy of celebration by the little ones,” Nicoletti says. “Ruth knew how much children enjoyed a day that put love front and center, and she figured — rightly so — that they would want to celebrate it in song.”
The songs in this collection are designed to be fun for everyone, even the very youngest family members. “Good old-fashioned sing-alongs never go out of style,” Nicoletti adds. “And in addition to being cute songs, they are all Rated G for all audiences,” Nicoletti states. She has an excellent idea of what “G-Rated” means because for 5 years prior to working with Ruth Roberts Music she was on the ratings board for the Motion Picture Association of America.
About Ruth Roberts:

LOS ANGELES, Calif., Sept. 30, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Calumet Gallery announces the opening of a new thematic fine art photography exhibition, “Rust Revised,” (October 3 – November 3, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. M-S) from Arizona photographer, Bill North. Calumet Photographic of Los Angeles will host an “open to the public” wine and cheese Artists Reception from 6 to 8:30 p.m., with an artist talk at 7 p.m. on October 10, 2013.
Born in Tucson and raised in Arizona, Bill became interested in photography while exploring bellows cameras as a child. He deepened this interest with photography courses at MIT from internationally acclaimed photographer and professor, Minor White. “His approach presented photography as a spiritual discipline, certainly not what I had expected, and advanced the idea that the most moving photographs were both graphic and metaphorical,” says Bill. “His theory on emotional equivalents was ground breaking at the time and influenced my photography then and now.”
Like Minor White, Bill graduated with a science discipline and returned to Ariz., after many years in Calif. where he developed and managed high-tech computer projects. Today, Bill and his wife Deborah again reside in Tucson, where he pursues travel and fine art photography.
“Rust Revised” is a study of corrugated metallic surfaces, where patches of oxidation form metaphorical symbols against troubled iron and tin backgrounds. North’s exhibit of 16 images revises the surfaces digitally to bring contrast, saturation and hues that reveal an expansive range of emotions. Captured digitally, North’s technical hand presents the audience with a series of re-presentation images that are universally subjective — sometimes with a minimum of intervention, and at other times, he asks us to suspend reality and simply accept what we feel.
When asked about his work, North explains, “I struggled with White’s sense of visual spirituality. My boyhood experiences, my days with film, were all documentation. That rigor was also part of my work life for many years. Nonetheless, I began to realize, perhaps unconsciously, how to capture an image that seemed to speak beyond the dimensional surface. Intuitively I knew that photographs are not imitative representations — and yet it was only recently that I was able to get beyond this poetic epistemology. ‘Rust Revised’ is a major shift in my thinking; one that has lurked within me like a latent image on film since Minor White stood in front of my class.”
“Rust Revised” challenges Bill’s own examination of things. “Decades later, I think I am beginning to understand what my professor was trying to teach us — that the best photographs aren’t just about the ‘things.’ They are really about how we see things and how we feel about them; how the light informs them, conceals them, reveals them, or transforms them. In rare instances, the ‘thing’ itself becomes almost incidental, acting like a catalyst to reveal shapes, forms, and structures that can take on a meaning, life and dimensionality of their own.”
The “Rust Revised” exhibit balances raw perceptions of reality through recognizable symbolism against images of advanced abstraction. North delivers structural work with the purpose of seeing things beyond the classical task of categorizing and confirming. A faint sense of Arizona petroglyphs scamper across blue tin, pastels with vaporized saturation, rust trails wander along gray trails of oxidation, and splashes of metallic colors exist for — existence.
Viewers of “Rust Revised” will sense North’s attention to detail and the manner in which each image combines a sense of space and minimalism: “As a photographer, if I am quiet enough within, and respectful enough of the subject without, a kind of trust emerges, and I am allowed a momentary glimpse beyond the surface. This exhibition is a collection of some of those moments for me.”
Sabrina Valdez, Manager of Calumet Gallery, said of North’s work, “Bill’s exhibit is emblematic of our outreach efforts to find and present photographers with visual voices that matter. His work is indicative of the depth and breadth of photography exhibits that Calumet presents, and we invite the public to explore this exciting work and to meet Bill at the reception.”

Each worthy cause is a U.S.-based 501(c)3 charity “doing good” on a local, or national level. This is our way of giving back where we can, and a great way to celebrate our 30th anniversary this year.”
The 2013 J.L. Simmons Non-Profit PR Grant Recipients are (alphabetical):
Catalysts Powering Educational Performance (CPEP):
In 1986, a group of engineers, college faculty and secondary educators created an innovative out-of-school program designed to inspire and prepare underrepresented and underserved students to pursue science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers. Launched in one school with 40 students, CPEP is now in 11 school districts, 42 schools and directly impacting 1,500 students annually across Connecticut.
CPEP serves as a catalyst to change underrepresented and underserved students’ knowledge, attitudes and behaviors toward the pursuit of STEM education and careers. Results indicate there is a consistent 60 percent increase in the percentage of students who desire to pursue a STEM career after just one CPEP experience and 90 percent of CPEP students report acceptance into college.
CPEP has won several awards recognizing the organization for its achievements and accomplishments, including the Turbo Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management by the Harvard Business School Alumni Association of Connecticut, the Golden Torch Award from the National Society of Black Engineers, the Presidential Award from the National Science Foundation for its Mentor Program in the New Haven Public Schools, and the 21st Century Solutions Award by NBCUniversal Foundation.

DesignWise Medical is a Minnesota-based, 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 2008 whose mission is to develop medical device and product solutions to children’s unmet medical needs. It is a volunteer-based organization funded entirely by charitable contributions, foundation and corporate grants.
Children need devices that are safe, effective and sized appropriately for them. Technology already exists that could address many children’s unmet medical needs, improving outcomes and quality of life and ultimately reducing health care costs. However, these markets are small, making it difficult for traditional medical device companies to achieve an adequate ROI.
DesignWise Medical is able to develop pediatric devices for approximately one-fifth (1/5) the cost of the traditional for-profit approach. Through the sustained involvement of pediatric clinicians, parents, sponsors, volunteers and students, DesignWise Medical is able to identify, create and deliver collaborative solutions to this underserved population.
To date, more than 280 volunteers have donated over 30,000 hours of their time working on ten active pediatric device projects. DesignWise Medical has sponsored 32 student projects at nine colleges and universities, providing learning opportunities for higher education student volunteers, helping them to succeed in today’s competitive medical technology job market. (in Los Angeles county), Food Finders picks up donated food from hundreds of local grocery stores, bakeries, restaurants and produce markets and distributes it directly to more than 200 missions, shelters and social service agencies to feed the needy and impoverished.
Food Finders also helps merchants comply with the California Waste Management law, requiring them to cut their waste by 50 percent, and more recently mandated, 75 percent. Instead of going to landfills, the wholesome, consumable food is being used to feed hungry children and adults.
The National Inclusion Project:
The National Inclusion Project works every day to make the inclusion of children with disabilities a reality. By driving the movement for social inclusion, children of all abilities learn and play together.

LOS ANGELES, Calif., May 30, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Marking the 23rd anniversary of “The Adventures of Ford Fairlane,” the controversial 1990 motion picture released by 20th Century Fox, directed by Renny Harlin, and starring Andrew Dice Clay, indie e-Book publisher Cultmachine is offering Ford Fairlane fans for the first time the original stories on which the movie was based.
“The Adventures of Ford Fairlane” (ISBN: 978-0-9840327-6-1), unavailable since first publication in 1980 as serialized weekly episodes in the New York Rocker and the LA Weekly, the stories were written by journalist and screenwriter Rex Weiner. In the two gritty tales, private eye Ford Fairlane, the music industry’s “rock n roll detective,” solves cases involving the punk rock and new wave scenes in New York City and Los Angeles in the late-1970′s.
The stories are offered at http://www.cultmachine.com/ in a single e-Book edition for $4.99 via Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing.
“The Adventures of Ford Fairlane has become a cult classic with a dedicated fan-base around the world,” said Rex Weiner. “I’m pleased that Cultmachine, in response to many requests, is offering these stories in which I created the character played on the big screen by Andrew Dice Clay.”
Cultmachine ( www.cultmachine.com ) is the brainchild of filmmakers and writers Andreas Kossak and John Huff. It is an independent e-publishing label where writers help each other succeed and retain full control of their work. With a focus on cult audiences, this label presents e-Books of movie-related fiction and non-fiction, screenplays, and all those exciting works which go beyond the strict confines of commercial publishers.
Cultmachine also publishes a webzine, “Cultnik,” featuring articles, interviews, and essays written from the perspective of curious fans and readers who are interested in who and what they like – as in “worship,” the original meaning of the Latin word “cultus.”

LOS ANGELES, Calif., May 23, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — A nude pregnant sculpture of Kim Kardashian with her belly fully accessible for gallery-goers to rub for ‘good luck’ is set for L.A. exhibit. The nude statue joins the celebrity baby sculptures created recently by artist Daniel Edwards; celebrating the beauty of celebrity pregnancy. The recent work, part of the artist’s “Celebrity Baby Boomer” series that began with the 2006 controversial sculpture “Monument to Pro-Life,” which depicted a nude Britney Spears giving birth on a bearskin rug, will be displayed at LAB ART Gallery in Los Angeles, announces Cory Allen Contemporary Art (CACA).
The life-size full-figured nude Kardashian sculpture titled “L.A. Fertility” stands curvaceous and proud, with lactiferous breasts, protruding navel and legs akimbo, and features a voluminous belly “designed to entice visitors to give a respectful rub for good luck and success,” says publicist Cory Allen.
Other works in the exhibit will include bronzes of Baby Kimye, depicted as a chubby-cheek-cherub with a swirl design pattern shaved in the hair and the Royal Baby, slumbering peacefully in the crown Queen Elizabeth wore as a princess, cast at the Cal State foundry currently managed by Edwards. The artist’s prenatal portraits of the angel-winged celebrity fetuses titled “Womb Mates” will also be on display.
“I was inspired by the beauty of Kim Kardashian and felt quite put-off by the media’s criticism of her weight gain during pregnancy,” said artist Daniel Edwards. “Such criticism should be off limits.”
“We live in a media-absorbed culture where anyone can access and share a celebrity’s most intimate moments,” said Cory Allen. “Daniel visually captures ‘that’ intimacy.”
An auction hosted by Google headquarters recently featured limited edition prints of the Baby Kimye sculpture printed by L.A. based Intellectual Property Prints for Venice Art Walk’s annual benefit to provide health care to families in need.
“L.A. Fertility” will debut at LAB ART Gallery, on June 5, 2013 at 11 a.m., located at 217 S. La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles, CA. For more info, contact Cory Allen at 323-393-3115 or http://www.cacanet.com/ .

LOS ANGELES, Calif., April 2, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — According to retirement crisis expert and author Karl Kim, CFP, CLTC, each year thousands of people are thrust into a “care crisis” when a family member or loved one needs long-term care. The challenge is not only finding the right nursing home; what can be even more challenging is figuring out how to pay for the care – and how to minimize possible damage to the rest of the family.
“That information isn’t easy to find,” says retirement crisis planner Karl Kim, CFP, CLTC. “Every year I speak with hundreds of adult children and their parents who have gotten bad advice, or who don’t know where to turn for answers. That’s the reason I wrote ‘Don’t Go Broke Paying the Nursing Home.’ Now every Californian can understand what needs to be done to protect their home, cash and retirement accounts.”
Karl Kim’s book is an easy-to-read quick reference guide. It provides answers in simple language to common questions such as:
* What information do you need to provide to Medi-Cal?
* Do you need an attorney to submit the application?
* What is the maximum amount a person or couple can have to qualify for Medi-Cal?
* What is the difference between Medicare, Medicaid and Medi-Cal?
* Which assets count and which don’t?
* What is the maximum amount of income a person can have and still qualify?
* When does someone apply?
* How long does the application process take?
* Do you have to be broke to qualify for Medi-Cal?
“Don’t Go Broke Paying the Nursing Home” (ISBN: 978-0988902619) explains Medi-Cal Recovery procedures.
“Most people don’t realize Medi-Cal is effectively a loan from the State of California,” explains Kim. “If proper steps aren’t taken, the state will place a claim against the home and other assets.”
California’s regulations covering the aging population can be difficult to keep up with. That becomes apparent in a care crisis – when what a family has “done wrong” can come back to bite them – financially and logistically.

LOS ANGELES, Calif., March 28, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Josh Valdez, DBA, the former Regional Director for the Federal Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS), has accepted an appointment to the Board of GROW Elect, Latino Consultants announced today. GROW Elect is a political organization founded in 2011 for the purpose of electing Latino Republicans to local office in California.
“Forty-four percent of Latinos voted for President George W. Bush in the 2004 general election – we need to re-energize and exceed that engagement that so our patriotic values are represented,” said Dr. Valdez. “Civic engagement and participation is vital for all of us who love this country and the State of California.”
The importance of Latinos becoming involved in policy and civics comes from perspective of deep-rooted empathy for the issues Latinos face as a community. “It is personal for me because my parents’ family – all U.S. Citizens born here – was deprived of their home and business in the forced ‘Repatriation’ of the Great Depression,” Dr. Valdez said. His father and family were part of the more than 500,000 Mexican-Americans that were gathered and forced to go to Mexico despite the fact they were citizens. The tragedy ripped the Valdez family apart along with the death of his younger brother – due to starvation – and who was forced to work at age eight and never again given the opportunity to attend school. “By becoming involved, we assure an equitable future for our families while honoring those who sacrificed so that we could succeed.”
Dr. Valdez, who is the President and CEO of Right Way HealthCare Consulting, was also the highest ranking Latino in a 42,000+ company as the Senior Vice President of Health Care Management for WellPoint from 2003-2007 and was appointed by President George W. Bush as a Regional Director for DHHS, 2001-2003. He co-authored “Strategies for Improving Latino Health Care in America” which included budget-neutral recommendations for expanding access. Most recently Dr. Valdez was in the news as the Chair of Health Care Insurance Industry Group to advise the Romney for President Campaign.
“One of the things I am excited about with GROW Elect is the leadership; I’m so very proud to join my good friend Ruben Barrales and other vibrant Latino leaders in the worthy mission to involve more Latinos in our democracy,” added Dr. Valdez, referring to the recent announcement that GROW Elect hired Ruben Barrales former, a former White House Deputy, as its President and Chief Executive Officer. “This exemplifies the momentum we have in engaging Latinos and our values in building a better tomorrow.”
Dr. Valdez plans on being an integral part of that momentum, both as a GROW Elect Board Member and as a future candidate for publicly elected office, of which he is exploring the options.
More About Dr. Valdez:
Dr. Valdez serves as a commissioner at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for eliminating racial disparities in health care and is a board member for the Hispanic Alliance for Prosperity. He has held past appointments as a member of the White House Council on Aging, Chairman of the U.S. Latino Health Task Force, and gubernatorial appointee of the California Health Policy and Data Commission. Dr. Valdez has been recognized as one of the 15 most influential Hispanics in the United States by The Latino Coalition and one of the 10 most influential Latinos in the healthcare sector by Hispanic Business. He is married to Elizabeth and has three children, Gabriel, Noah and Jacob.
About Grow Elect:
GROW Elect is a 527 political action committee that recruits, endorses, trains and funds Latino Republican candidates for public office in California. LOS ANGELES, Calif., March 26, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Whatever holiday pops up on your calendar, two things are always true: kids are happy about it and the late Ruth Roberts wrote kids’ music to help you celebrate it.
“Children’s music was the special province of Ruth Roberts,” says Susan Nicoletti, Director of Operations for Goldenrod Music, the publishing company that oversees Roberts’ songs. “Her specialty was mining every holiday for its musical potential, often with lots of humor. Young kids especially love learning and singing along with her funny and pun-filled songs,” Nicoletti states.
The output of Roberts includes entire albums of songs for Spring, Easter, Valentine’s, St. Patrick’s, April Fools, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Halloween. “Each collection is part of a series of albums called ‘[Holiday Name] Songs That Tickle Your Funny Bone,’” Nicoletti points out, adding that songs may also be purchased individually.
“People will find the sing-a-long tunes on these collections to be fun for everyone, even the very youngest family members, plus they are all G-Rated,” Nicoletti states. She knows what “G-Rated” means because for five years prior to working with Ruth Roberts Music she was on the ratings board for the Motion Picture Association of America.
About Ruth Roberts:
Ruth Roberts wrote pop, gospel, rock, blues, country, sports, and children’s songs. Every sports fan knows some of Roberts’ work, from “Meet the Mets” to “It’s a Beautiful Day for a Ball Game” to “Mr. Touchdown, USA.” Beatles fans know that the Fab Four recorded ‘Mailman Bring Me No More Blues,’ which is on the ‘Anthology 3′ album, but they may not realize that the song was written by Roberts.
Love songs by Roberts hit the charts in recordings by Dean Martin, Debbie Reynolds, Theresa Brewer, Jimmy Dean, The McGuire Sisters, Patti Page, Vic Damone, Arthur Godfrey, Steve Allen and Eydie Gorme.” Movie and TV viewers have heard Roberts’ songs in “Yes Man,” “The Benchwarmer,” “A Dirty Shame,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Seinfeld,” and the Conan O’Brien show.
While her children’s music career began when she worked with Bob Keeshan, TV’s Captain Kangaroo, she also excelled in the area of educational songs. “Teachers and educators can discover more about the musicals written by Ruth Roberts for a K-through-grade-6 curriculum on the Ruth Roberts Music website,” states Nicoletti.

Publishers Newswire announces latest ‘Books to Bookmark’ List of 10 Interesting New Book Titles from Q1-2013
LOS ANGELES, Calif., March 15, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Publishers Newswire (PNW), an online resource established in 2004 for small publishers, as well as lesser known and first-time book authors, has today announced its latest semi-annual “Books to Bookmark” list. This is a round-up of 10 new and recent books from Q4/2012 and Q1/2013 which may have been missed due to not originating from major New York book publishing houses, or “big name” authors.
“Probably the most interesting thing we’ve seen this past year, is the further explosion in self-published titles. From convicted felons, to first-time mystery ghost story authors, to children’s picture books, the fountain of creativity is really amazing,” said PNW editor Christopher Simmons. PNW’s Simmons has been a working journalist for over 30 years, and has written widely on the topic of publishing, marketing, and e-books. He is also the author of a self-published book on digital artwork.
The following list of 10 books (in alphabetical order) are provided as “worth a look” for media and booksellers, as well as avid readers of new and unique literary content. To learn more about these and other books (and e-books) in detail, visit: http://www.publishersnewswire.com/ .
* FAMILY TIEZ.
Author Mustafaa As-Salafi’s “Family Tiez” (ISBN: 978-0976224310; paperback; Level V Publishing) is the fictional story of a Muslim family’s struggle to stay together through the trials of the urban drug culture: addiction, drug dealing, dirty cops, prison, and murder; as told by someone who has walked several miles in each character’s shoes. “Family Tiez” has been an underground, nationwide, best selling novel that chronicles the story of a large-scale, illegal drug distribution enterprise in the Tri-State area. Now, re-released in eBook formats, including Kindle and iBooks. “Family Tiez” is close to, but way more than what the media and law enforcement have characterized it as: it is life imitating art. The author invites readers to witness “Family Tiez” for themselves.
On December 16, 2008, The News Journal, Wilmington, Delaware’s largest local newspaper, ran a cover story with headline: Urban fiction author pleads guilty to drug trafficking: 10 counts could get the Wilmington man life in prison. This story was about Mustafaa. The July 2008 arrest of Mustafaa was carried by various media outlets across the country, including USA Today. Mustafaa did not receive a life sentence; he is expected to be home soon.
* HAVING A WHALEY OF A TIME.
In the new book, “Having a Whaley of a Time” (ISBN: 978-0578104836; paperback; 94pp; DKeeley Press), author and publisher Donna Keeley uses the history and “documented ghosts” from the Whaley House in San Diego, Calif. to weave an enjoyable, fictional mystery with real facts. “I wanted to do something different with the mystery genre,” says Keeley. “By pairing a fictional story with a real, haunted location I can fulfill my love of research with the fun of writing.”
Each book in the new Paranormal Mystery series features a real haunted location as the backdrop for each mystery. The ghosts documented at these locations become characters in the book and help the fictional main character Shannon MacIntyre solve her mystery. Kindle edition also available.
* HEALTHY HANNAH’S FITNESS FABLES: A PROMISE TO YOURSELF.
A new book, “Healthy Hannah’s Fitness Fables: A Promise to Yourself” (ISBN: 978-0-9852773-0-7; KidsProsper Publishing) pairs father-daughter authors in the fight against childhood obesity. The characters in “Healthy Hannah’s Fitness Fables” guide children on a healthy rhyming adventure about exercise and nutrition. Through playful and entertaining illustrations, one by one, Healthy Hannah, Maxwell Muscle, Low-Fat Larry, and Aerobic Annie delight in a healthy and fun journey from birth through adulthood. It is illustrated by a former personal trainer, Joe Romano II.
“Childhood obesity is a problem that requires multi-pronged efforts,” says Jay England, co-author. “We have to stay on top of the issue and the earlier you introduce healthy habits to children, the more likely they will practice healthy habits and engage in fitness as they grow older.”
* LITTLE GREEN.
In the new children’s book “Little Green” (ISBN: 9780981587974; Paraphrase, LLC) by author Arnold Rudnick, readers discover an important message and question to consider: Isn’t it possible? Released in “Fraugust 2012″ by independent publisher Paraphrase, LLC, “Little Green” is a picture-book for 2-7 year olds written by Rudnick, with illustrations by Marcelo Gorenman, featuring a little green frog on a quest to be special.
“It’s about time we admit that not everything is possible,” said Rudnick. “For too long, movies and books have pretended anything is possible, but kids are smart and know that’s not true. Messages that are meant to motivate quickly become empty platitudes. However, ALMOST anything IS possible! This simple, honest qualification offers a more powerful message and an inspirational lesson for everyone.”
* LONG JOURNEY WITH MR. JEFFERSON.
The magisterial “collaboration” over half a lifetime between historian Dumas Malone and his subject, Thomas Jefferson, is the basis for William G. Hyland Jr.’s compelling “Long Journey with Mr. Jefferson” (ISBN: 978-1612341972; clothbound; 328pp; Potomac Books). Malone, the courtly and genteel historian from Mississippi, spent 38 years researching and writing the definitive biography of the man who “invented the United States of America.” Offering much more than most biographies, this book imparts extensive insights into Malone’s earlier years in Mississippi and Georgia, and how they shaped his character. Through interviews with his intimates, family members, rivals, and subordinates, Hyland generates a true portrait of the man behind the intellect and the myth.
* MURDER AND MISUNDERSTANDING; ONE MAN’S ESCAPE FROM INSANITY.
The new autobiography by author Shuvender Sem, “Murder and Misunderstanding; One Man’s Escape from Insanity” (ISBN-13: 978-1479256969; paperback; 200pp; CreateSpace) is the story of Sem, who on March 1, 2004 became known as “The Maharishi Murderer.” In one moment Sem was a college student. In the next he was “The Maharishi Murderer.” Shuvender killed freshman Levi Butler without provocation on the campus by stabbing him four times in the chest with a paring knife. Deemed competent to stand trial, the judge ruled he was “not guilty by reason of insanity” at the request of both the defense and the prosecution.
Against popular belief, NGRI is an extremely rare plea, used in less than one percent of criminal cases. A not guilty result is even more uncommon, occurring just one-quarter of one percent of the time. Now, after years of psychotropic medications and intense therapy, Shuvender is telling his story of schizophrenia in his autobiography. The book is available in paperback; as well as Kindle, iPad and Nook digital editions.
* ON MY FEET AGAIN: MY JOURNEY OUT OF THE WHEELCHAIR USING NEUROTECHNOLOGY.
In her new book, “On My Feet Again: My Journey Out of the Wheelchair Using Neurotechnology” (ISBN: 978-0988234208; paperback; 176pp; Neurotech Press), author Jennifer French, a quadriplegic and competitive sailing athlete who recently medalled at the 2012 Paralympics Games in London, tells her inspiring and intellectually stimulating story of how a determined and resourceful young woman overcame many of the obstacles that came her way after being paralyzed in a snowboarding accident. Although told she would never get out of her wheelchair, Jennifer refused to accept that fate and sought out experimental new technologies for people with spinal cord injuries.
French became a participant in a clinical trial of a neuroprosthetic system that enables her to stand up out of her wheelchair and move around on her own two feet using her own muscles, which are stimulated by 24 surgically implanted electrodes. Along the way, she helped advance the technology by working with the research team to test new features, push the limits of her strength and endurance, and prove the viability of this new therapy for thousands of other potential recipients-including injured soldiers returning from war. The book is also available in e-book format.
* SO YOU WANT TO BE A LANDLORD: TALES FROM THE CRYPT.
DJV Murphy considered the current market conditions as the backdrop to his latest book “So You Want To Be A Landlord: Tales From The Crypt” (ISBN-13: 978-1461087014; paperback). He ventures there is no bad time to invest in property. He calls it a humorous “how to” book about getting in the game of investment real estate but also offers a serious slant of avoiding the pitfalls of being a landlord. “This is not for the big hitters in the real estate investment field,” Murphy said, “but it is written with small town ‘Donald Trumps’ in mind.”
The 100 plus page book combines humor with technical information about how to succeed being a landlord and is illustrated with cartoons depicting the pitfalls and successes of owning investment real estate. The illustrator is B.J. Nartker a leading artist from California, who provided the visuals to the book. Murphy chose the illustration themes and cut lines with Nartker interpreting them as cartoons. The book is also available as a Kindle edition.
* THE CHINESE ORIGIN OF THE AGE OF DISCOVERY.
In the new book “The Chinese Origin of the Age of Discovery” (ISBN: 978-1-62141-693-7; 300pp; Diogenes Research; Booklocker.com), veteran Researcher Chao C. Chien has meticulously collected and analyzed the records preserved from the previously rarely examined history of the Age of Discovery and the results are conclusive. Did the Chinese precede Christopher Columbus in discovering America? The question now has been settled once and for all.
* THE INDIE AUTHOR REVOLUTION: AN INSIDER’S GUIDE TO SELF-PUBLISHING.
In indie author mentor Dara Beevas’ new book, “The Indie Author Revolution: An Insider’s Guide to Self-Publishing” (ISBN 978-1-59298-504-3; paperback, 296pp; Beaver’s Pond Press), the author believes indie authors will push the publishing industry to evolve. “Legacy publishing isn’t the right answer for every author, and that’s a good thing,” she says. “Indie authors are known for catering to niche audiences overlooked by big publishers.
They’re also attracting new readers through the sales of e-books.” A writer, editor, blogger, and speaker, Beevas is vice president of award-winning Beaver’s Pond Press, where she has led hundreds of indie authors through the publishing process. Her passion for the self-publishing movement also led her to launch Wise Ink, an online support community for authors. Also available in e-book formats.

LOS ANGELES, Calif., Feb. 5, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Calumet Gallery announces “Edge of Thought,” (March 5 – April 5, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., Mon.-Sat.) a thematic exhibition from fine art photographer James Maxwell. A native of Tennessee now residing in Pismo Beach, Calif., Maxwell is an artist who works at several levels: sculptor; innovative architect; and as a photographer who is equally at home with digital printing as well as alternative photographic processes using a traditional wet darkroom.
“Edge of Thought” is an exhibit of twenty-one diffuse, ethereal images. Using film, and recording images on the edge of the visual light spectrum, Maxwell strives to portray the subterranean content of the mind and the moment just before perception crystallizes into conscious awareness. The goal is not to document “reality” as perceived by the artist, but to evoke an awareness of multiple potential realities in the viewer.
Maxwell employs various techniques to achieve the desired effect, including a dreamlike diffusion of light, the grainy texture of the film, the choice of materials on which the images are printed, even a layered doubling of certain translucent images which are then backlit, so that a sense of mystery permeates throughout.
When asked about the how and the why of his work, Maxwell speaks of his own curiosity about how different perceptions of reality can arise from different personal histories, different spiritual beliefs, different cultural outlooks, even different neurological cognitive conditions or a deeper understanding of quantum physics.
Maxwell recalls a world altering experience of his own: “I must’ve been just shy of a year’s age when my father handed me a small blue ball, a sphere which seemed large in my infant hands. When I placed one of my hands on the far side of the ball, I suddenly and irrevocably added the third dimension to my awareness. I remember gasping from fear and delight simultaneously.” As he later stated: “Things are not necessarily what we believe we are seeing, so I try to get to a reality beyond what is visible.”
Viewers of his photographs can sense his architectural and sculptural skills at work in the manner in which each image demonstrates a deft ability with space and light: “I enjoy leading the eye of the viewer through an experience of spatial relationships and light, both in my architectural work and in my photography.”
Marie Mazur, manager of Calumet Gallery, will host a Celebration Reception, open to the public, for the “Edge of Thought” exhibit from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on March 8, 2013. The artist will give a talk at 6:30.
“Maxwell’s work,” Mazur said, “is indicative of the depth and breadth of photography exhibits that Calumet presents. We invite the public to explore this exciting work and to enjoy an interesting talk with Mr. Maxwell.”

LOS ANGELES, Calif., Feb. 4, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Creating a fine art exhibit for Mojave National Preserve Artists in Residence program requires reflection, introspection, and then interpretation because artists have to develop a thematic from 1.6 million acres of visual communities and millenniums of history. Make it a Father and Son assignment that projects one voice, and the possibilities grow exponentially.
“Working with my son on the Mojave National Preserve Artist in Residence program has been fulfilling because we share the same blood and instincts,” says Poet Russell Thorburn, “and out there in the Mojave Desert we were experiencing the same sweat.”
“Many Names Have Never Been Spoken Here” is a dual-media exhibit currently on display at the Desert Light Gallery in the Kelso Visitors Center of the Mojave National Preserve through April 6, 2013. The Thorburn team present a deft combination of fine art photography from Gabriel nested against Russell’s crackling poetry.
The Mojave National Preserve will present a public reading of the poems at noon on February 28 at the Kelso Depot. The presentation layout supports Russell’s poetry on handmade paper, which replicates the Mojave’s desert floor- sand, fine rocks, splintered sticks. Gabriel’s photographs, framed in the receding white of a clear sky, appear on archival papers and balance the poetry displays through image size and proximity of placement.
Gabriel Thorburn is a fine art photographer and a busy Los Angeles cinema editor cutting feature films and TV commercials.
“It is not unusual for Fathers and sons to work a business together,” Gabriel explains. “In our case we are both artists, so the business is making good artwork. In this project, I found that once we understood the theme, the process evolved in much the same manner as a film. Cinema effectively combines visuals with a narrative story, and so the post-production of this project was to match my shots to the poems and match poems to what was shot in the same way that a motion picture editor would match the correct visual at the right moment of the film. As with a movie, you have literal matches, such as a fence post for the Fence Post poem, and then there are emotional matches, such as the broken tree and the Johnny Cash poem.”
Russell Thorburn is the author of four books of poems, a National Endowment of the Arts recipient, and currently teaches writing and literature at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mich. “When I look at a frame without people,” he says, “I imagine characters who have vacated that desolate place. Looking at photographs of a black and white nature, or every Hollywood Western I have ever seen, returns to me in language influenced by shade and light, sweat and water. The words are searching for something and leave tracks toward some desolate, rewarding moment. So poetry is an extension of the visual voice, and so appropriate for the Mojave Preserve which is full of light, shadow, and words spoken and unspoken.”
The combination of the mediums produces its own aesthetics, not because of a balance between the two but rather an integration of each into one. The ‘poetic voices’ never spoken are imaginary characters experiencing the loneliness and desolation of Mojave Preserve or reveling in the solitude, quiet, and sense of everlasting peace. Each image echoes the character, sometimes with disarming snapshot simplicity, and at other times with a cinematic styling that explores the uneasy relationship between the voices and their mercurial identities.
“Many Names Have Never Been Spoken Here” invites more than a casual review. Viewers who spend some time with each voice will be amply rewarded with new desert characters, new narratives, and perhaps imagine a few of their own as they continue to journey through the vast Mojave Preserve.

LOS ANGELES, Calif., Jan. 17, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Street Artist XVALA, famous for invading the residential trash of celebrities such as Ashton Kutcher and Justin Bieber and tech icons Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg, has set his sights on Robert Downey Jr., Lindsay Lohan, and Taylor Swift for his latest exhibit “The Tonight Show with Celebrity Chimp” at Lab Art Gallery in Los Angeles, announces Cory Allen Contemporary Art (CACA).
To represent the past, present, and future of celebrity arcs based on their individual confrontation with hardship in the spotlight, XVALA has invaded the residential trash of celebrities Robert Downey Jr., Lindsay Lohan, and Taylor Swift, for his latest series of paintings.
A limited edition series of paintings imbued with reflecting powder created from broken down glass that was collected and mixed from all three celebrity’s residential trash comprise the exhibit, which features a work of L.A. street art by the artist, appropriated by NBC’s “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” for use as the backdrop for musical guests.
“The appropriated image is the artist’s signature piece,” said Cory Allen about the chimpanzee head image with google-eyes and heart-shaped smeared lipstick, called Celebrity Chimp. “The artist is re-appropriating it from ‘The Tonight Show.’”
The paintings are stamped with the official “Tonight Show” logo.
Artist dumpster dives Hollywood to make a statement:
“Celebrities’ personal lives become talk show related material to shape ratings – my work represents celebrity downfall and how a star can rise again,” said XVALA. “Lindsay Lohan could learn from Robert Downey Jr. and Taylor Swift could learn from Lohan.”
“A celebrity’s personal life has become more entertaining than their professional work,” said Cory Allen. “Hopefully the next generation will value art over entertainment.”
The artist is dedicating his “Tonight Show” to programmer and internet activist, Aaron Swartz, in a heart-felt response to his passing. “Aaron’s legacy has had a huge influence on my art,” said XVALA.
“The Tonight Show with Celebrity Chimp” will debut at the world’s largest street art gallery, LAB ART Gallery, on January 26, 2013 at 7 p.m., located at 217 S. La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles, Calif. For more info, contact Cory Allen at 323-393-3115 or visit www.LabArtGallery.com .
