It is no secret that professional cycling has suffered in the past decade. The endless doping scandals that continue to rock the sport have led to a significant fall in corporate sponsorship monies and a huge drop in TV audiences around the world. Among an increasingly large group of highpowered executives the bike has replaced the fairway or the tennis court as the place to conduct informal business meetings and high-level networking. Just ask ex-professional rider Guido Eickelbeck who rode for Germany”s Team Telekom in the 1990s. His company, Lifestyle Cycling, organises events around the world aimed at top-level executives, offering cycling holidays that combine a day”s riding with five-star accommodation, gourmet cuisine and fine wines, all of which amounts to a whole lot of fun.

In just over a year since its inception, Lifestyle Cycling has already built a client list that reads like a who”s who of top business execs. “The last event I organised had over 100 top managers from some major companies,” says Eickelbeck. “Some very high-powered people are waking up to the joys of cycling.” This year Eickelbeck”s clients include the CEO of Qualcomm Dr Paul Jacobs and his brother Jeff who flew in for an event on their private jumbo jet, as well as media attorney Matthias Prinz and the former CFO of T-Mobile International Thomas Winkler.

Eickelbeck, who since leaving racing spent 10 years in South Africa and later worked as VIP events manager for Deutsche Telekom, started the company after completing a London-to-Canterbury cycling event. “Around 6,000 riders attended. It was incredible. I met a lot of people and a lot of them were businessmen. Everyone was having fun and I realised a lifestyle had been born and I wanted to be a part of it. What better way than to start a company that would cater to their needs.”

Unlike existing cycling holidays, Lifestyle Cycling is specifically geared to high-level business customers. “My clients are very busy people. They don”t get a lot of free time and it is my job to make sure they enjoy every moment.

We take the riding seriously but the key is to have fun. By the end of the day our guests have had plenty of exercise and fresh air, maybe a spa treatment, some good food and wine, and a lot of camaraderie. Many have told me they have never felt so relaxed in all their lives.”

Working with this type of clientele is not easy. “These are people that are used to hard work. They push themselves and they expect things to be done right. They don”t make excuses and they won”t accept any either,” says Eickelbeck. Therefore, everything must be first rate, from the Lexus shuttle that greets clients at the airport to the Kuota Kharma carbon-framed bikes and Uvex helmets. Participants in the upcoming Velothon Berlin street race will stay in the famous Hotel Aldon and dine at its Michelin-star restaurant, while those attending the Mallorca training camps enjoy the luxury of Gran Hotel Son Julia and take part in a cooking course with one of the island”s top chefs, Marc Fosh.

Lifestyle Cycling also has a group of expert guides, including former professional riders, that are always on hand to help fit the riders” bikes, handle any repairs, teach proper seating and pedalling techniques and share their knowledge of the road. Black and Gold Sweeps the Gulf Coast – Showing Support for the Saints and New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, La., March 23, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Just when you thought the gulf coast was settling into the long path to recovery, another devastating blow was dealt to the city of New Orleans this week, says local clothing company NOLA Shirts. “The nation is still stunned from the early weeks news of the unprecedented suspension of New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton for the next season,” says Gretchen Zito, of NOLA Shirts.

For the first time in NFL history, Payton is the first head coach suspended by the league for any reason, accused of trying to cover up a system of cash incentives to players for performance within a game – what has become named a bounty system: extra cash for players who deliberately take an opposing player out of the game. While similar systems have existed in a shadowy form in several teams, as well as several other sports, this was the highest profile revelation of such a practice, and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell appears to be making the New Orleans Saints the example – by dealing out the harshest punishment to a team in NFL history.

Not only was the head coach, Sean Payton, suspended for a year without pay, the former defensive coordinator, Gregg Williams, completely banned from the league, a $500,000 fine was issued to the team, their second-round draft picks were also taken away, and the Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis was banned for the first eight regular-season games next season, and the assistant coach Joe Vitt has also been banned for the first six games. This again set a new precedent – it is believed that this was the first time a general manager was suspended by the NFL. All of this, in the coming year – in which the Super Bowl is to be held in the city of New Orleans, the Saints’ home city.

This overwhelming and crippling decision to completely eviscerate a NFL football team is an attempt to show other teams how serious the NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, is taking this issue – yet, the ruling is being discussed across the nation as a whole, and will have a ripple effect in the Nation Football League. Continuing discussions go on as the commissioner also determines a pending punishment for players as well – and this is being reviewed by the NFL Players association.

This all comes as another major blow to the city of New Orleans, after several hits have impacted the city in past years. Natural disasters such as Katrina, oil spills in the Gulf, the entire rebuilding process, the mass exodus and return of citizenry to the area – and now this almost fatal blow to one of the spiritual hearts of the city – the New Orleans Saints. Even in the harshest times, and the most depressing years of recent history, the people of New Orleans have rallied behind their home team with an almost religious fervor – every time a game is played, the city is dressed in the famous black and gold to celebrate and share in the games.

Even now, the citizens of the city are not taking this news lightly. This week, as the news was made public of the harsh treatment of the city’s home team and its coaches, many of its citizens are bringing out the black and gold to show support for the city and its team. Whether in the size 4×4, 5×5 or 6×6, the aerodynamically formed lightweight tent is an attractive attention-getter, perfectly suited as an innovative tradeshow stand or exceptional promotional tool for marketing- and corporate events.
Skywalk will not only be meeting with potential customers in Las Vegas, but will also be using the tradeshow as a platform for expanding their international dealer network for its premium tent X-GLOO.
