SuperFly Magazine Publisher Launches New Book that Gives Untold Story of Hip-Hop Legacy

Untold Story of Hip-Hop

LOS ANGELES, Calif., Oct. 29, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — “SuperFly – My Untold Story of Hip-Hop” (ISBN: 978-0991356010), authored by Gloria Goldwater, pulls back the curtain on how the popular hip-hop magazine, SuperFly, that launched in the early 90s, came to be and why it ultimately folded.

SuperFly was the result of Gloria’s passion for rhythm and blues which evolved into a love affair with hip-hop. Her connections and relationships formed during her marriage to John Goldwater, creator of Archie Comics, were what ultimately provided her with the resources to publish this hip-hop legend.

A 294-page book, “SuperFly: My Untold Story of Hip-Hop,” details Gloria’s rise to publishing success, and also reveals the heartbreaking situation that led to the magazine’s shutdown, right in the midst of its popularity.

Gloria shares rare anecdotes about an industry where, at first glance, she appeared out of her element. She gives readers candid accounts about the hip-hop music scene as well as personal insight into her various relationships with the artists.

Readers will revel in never-before-published photos taken at exclusive events with celebrities such as Queen Latifah, LL Cool J, Ice T, MC Hammer, Dr. Dre, and many others.

Many of these hip-hop artists became fast friends with Gloria and they forged meaningful and lasting friendships. Rhythm and blues artists such as Bobby Brown, Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson also graced the pages of SuperFly magazine. The book chronicles it all.

“SuperFly – My Untold Story of Hip-Hop” begins with an overview of the evolution of hip-hop from society’s fringe into the mainstream. It then goes on to describe the development and subsequent launch of SuperFly, the celebrity-drenched SuperFly years, and the post-SuperFly life.

“Rappers used to come to my office all the time, and I must admit, I loved it,” Goldwater says. “We became like a family.”

The book includes free downloadable bonus material, including digitized copies of original print SuperFly magazines, an original video from Gloria’s cable television show, “Crashing New York” and never-before released textual and audio interviews featuring Tupac, Tony!, Toni!, Tone!, N.W.A., Flavor Flav and more.

“SuperFly – My Untold Story of Hip-Hop” (ISBNs: 978-0-9913560-0-3 Hardcover, 978-0-9913560-1-0 Softcover and 976-0-9913560-2-7 e-book) is available in hard cover, soft cover and e-book format. The book can be purchased on Amazon, Borders, Barnes and Noble and on numerous other online sites and bookstores.

Although entrenched in dubstep, “Ready” pulls from other facets in the EDM space that do resonate and nicely complement Sartor’s music style over the years. Working with the very talented Klark, Sartor was able to take his sound to a new and exciting level that is nice direction for his musical career. The lyrics aim to inspire listeners to not only get “Ready” for some serious dance grooves but also get “Ready” to take their goals and aspirations higher.

Luxuryville Records to Release Their Debut Exploration Into the Dub Genre with ‘Dubtronica, Vol. I’

Dubtronica

DENVER, Colo., July 29, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Colorado based record label, Luxuryville, is set to kick off the fall surf season with their newest record, Dubtronica, Vol. I, a fresh look at electronic dub music.

When you think of good dub music, old-school artists like King Tubby and Lee “Scratch” Perry may come to mind. Labels such as Trojan Records and Fire & Ice capture that telltale dub sound that is legendary. As the years have progressed, newer artists like Black Uhuru and Dub Syndicate have added their own style, expanding the boundaries of what is “dub” music.

Celebrating the millennium, a newer more electronic dub sound has emerged; it combines authentic reggae rhythms, old-school dub sounds and newer electronic beats. This aptly titled style is called: Dubtronica.

Instrumental up-tempo beats, classic horn lines, scratchy political lyrics and deep half-time reggae grooves permeate the sound of Luxuryville’s newest release, Dubtronica, Vol. I. There are even a few horn and guitar solos thrown in for style. The music segues seamlessly from double-time electronic beats into half-time old-school reggae riffs and bass lines, and then back again.

Every one of the eight tracks brings something new into the dub equation, experimenting in ways perhaps not yet imagined. Above all, the album’s sound is fresh, memorable and turns the wheel another revolution in the dub world.

In a landscape full of incredible dub artists and reggae grooves, Luxuryville Records humbly pays homage to the dub genre and adds a little bit of their own spice. We hope that you will join us in the celebration and release of Luxuryville’s long awaited dub album release, Dubtronica, Vol. I.

For additional information please contact Devon Kurzweil at (303) 667-1190, or at dkrockstar@aol.com. See more of the album at http://luxuryville.net/ .

WHO IS BEHIND DUBTRONICA?

Colorado producer, writer and musician Devon Kurzweil is the driving force behind Luxuryville. A multi-instrumentalist and talented guitarist, Devon creates and performs the majority of the music featured on the new album. Dan Levin (Air Tight Experiment, Fina Dupa) handles the vocals flawlessly, as if reggae was his main gig. Adding even more color, the fine horn section of Soul School were brought in for those classic reggae horn lines. Dubtronica, Vol I., is the long awaited culmination of Devon’s many surf trip musings and music explorations around the globe.

Breaking Down Musical Borders: John Dellroy Band Mixes Genres and Crosses Countries

folktronica

LOS ANGELES, Calif., July 1, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — When the John Dellroy Band cranks it up on stage, audiences are treated to a melodic onslaught. “We rock, but with folk and electronic influences, and the melodies are designed to let you hum along immediately and even sing with us after you hear the hook just a couple of times,” states lead vocalist John Dellroy.

Calling their sound “alternative folk-rock without limits,” the John Dellroy Band is unafraid to go from hard-charging rock to a reflective ballad while zooming through a set-list that contains numbers featuring a full range of modern pop styles.

“It is so exciting to be able to play in this band,” Dellroy states, “especially the way the guys can blend hard rock with electronica, intricate vocal harmonies, and even a touch of country now and then.” Their sound has been described as a combination of “intimate and gritty.” On their recent European tour, the band performed rock and acoustic sets, depending on the venue.

Their first full-length CD, “A New Life Has Begun,” was released in 2013 on Poolman Records. The 11-track album was produced by Thomas Mora and has seen a radio edit of “Time” achieve very strong download action, including reaching #1 at Musicload and #55 on the iTunes Pop chart.

Theirs is a total commitment to music. As Dellroy states, “Life without music is an empty, soulless place.” In addition to touring in support of the album and single releases, the band is working with producer Peter Roberts to launch new singles into the North American market.

ABOUT THE JOHN DELLROY BAND:

Formed five years ago in Europe, the Austrian/American/Australian group consists of John Dellroy on vocals, acoustic guitar, and harp; Franz Konigshofer on electric guitar and backing vocals; Daniel Salecich on violin, keyboards, and backing vocals; Peter Volker on bass; and Mike ‘Drummer’ Pawlowitsch on percussion.

The Filharmonic Swings By Twelve3south Studio

The Filharmonic

TIPP CITY, Ohio, April 9, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The doors at twelve3south Studio are always open to artists who are looking to make some music, even if they stop in at a moment’s notice. The Tipp City, Ohio music studio, which is owned by producer and performer Donnie Reis, hosted The Filharmonic, of NBC’s “The Sing Off” Season 4 earlier this month when the up-and-coming a cappella group stopped in to lay down a few tracks for an upcoming EP.

The young Filipino-Americans from Southern California just happened to swing by a few hours before Reis left to play at South by Southwest with singer-songwriter Caroline Glaser.

“We were getting ready to go to Austin, Texas later that day when I got a call from Sound Engineer Bryan Farina, who wanted to bring the guys up to record a few tracks,” said Reis. “He asked if we had the time, and I said, ‘We’ve always got time for artists.’”

The Filharmonic were currently in the middle of the 31-city “The Sing-Off Tour” that included other Season 4 groups “Home Free” and “VoicePlay.” The tour had stopped in southern Ohio when the six Los Angelinos decided to pay twelve3south a visit.

“We had an off day in Cincinnati and twelve3south was only an hour away,” said Farina. “I knew Donnie was a top-notch dude, and I knew he would take care of business for these guys.”

Farina and Reis spent time touring together last year with Atlantic Records’ a cappella sensation “Straight No Chaser” (SNC). Farina was the front-of-the-house engineer for SNC, while Reis and Glaser were their opening act.

While at the studio, The Filharmonic recorded three tracks for their upcoming EP.

“We loved having the guys up at the studio,” said Reis. “They’re super-talented and a lot of fun to have around. I’m happy they took the time come visit us… even if it was at the very last minute!”

Book ‘The Artist’s Guide to Success in the Music Business’ has put in busy two months since release, from NAMM2014 to MMC18

Music Business LOS ANGELES, Calif., Jan. 30, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — A new book, “The Artist’s Guide to Success in the Music Business” (ISBN: 978-1608325788; Greenleaf Book Group Press) by Loren Weisman is now available in 26 different countries as well as an eBook edition (ISBN: 978-1608325795). The book delivers the “who, what, when, where, why, and how” of the steps musicians and bands have to take to succeed in music.

Written by music business consultant Loren Weisman, “The Artist’s Guide” provides a roadmap for the artist’s journey from passion to profession. The foreword was written by session guitarist, producer and writer Elliot Randall of Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers and Saturday Night Live fame.

“It’s not about the amount of time you put in, it is the way you spend the time on the work you need to get done. My goal for the book was to give people the ideas and methods that they can apply to be as productive as possible with as many aspects of the business as possible,” says Weisman.

Currently on the road, Loren and the book stopped by NAMM 2014 in Anaheim, this past weekend and will visit 6 states in February including the Millennium Music Conference in Pennsylvania and then head over the border to some stops in Canada.

To quote a review from John G Scott on PublishersNewswire.com – “Of all the valuable points to be made about ‘The Artist’s Guide,’ let me especially praise the lists of questions and considerations that appear in almost every section. These can be of immense help for anyone faced with decisions on recording better songs, finding a manager or publisher, running a band, working with a songwriting partner, and creating marketing materials. There is a nice feel to the book – in urging you to ask these questions of yourself, Weisman seems to be coming from a good place.”

In the book Weisman writes: I do not claim to have all the answers, but I do know you must take a hard, cold look at yourself, your music, your band, and what you are doing, while assessing those things you might need to change and those things that should remain the same. “This book will help you accomplish that,” said John Scott G in his review.

As a music business consultant and speaker, Weisman works to help independent artists, musicians, bands, labels and businesses achieve sustainable success. Weisman is also the Spokesperson for the Musicians Community Artists Bridge – in its first phase of launch: http://artistsbridge.com/ .

Children Celebrate Valentine’s Day in Song

Valentines Songs LOS ANGELES, Calif., Jan. 23, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — On February 14, Valentines Day, most people think of romance, flowers, candy, and candlelit dinners. But children also celebrate by sending and receiving valentines, dreaming up DIY projects for their parents, siblings, and teachers — and they are definitely pleased about the candy!

“Children’s parties are a way to celebrate this delightful holiday and that’s where Ruth Roberts Music can help,” states Susan Nicoletti, Director of Operations for Goldenrod Music, the publishing company overseeing Roberts’ songs. She is pleased to direct parents and teachers to the album “Valentine Songs That Tickle Your Funny Bone,” available on iTunes.

“When Ruth Roberts put the finishing touches on her series of children’s albums for all major American holidays, she included Valentine’s Day as worthy of celebration by the little ones,” Nicoletti says. “Ruth knew how much children enjoyed a day that put love front and center, and she figured — rightly so — that they would want to celebrate it in song.”

The songs in this collection are designed to be fun for everyone, even the very youngest family members. “Good old-fashioned sing-alongs never go out of style,” Nicoletti adds. “And in addition to being cute songs, they are all Rated G for all audiences,” Nicoletti states. She has an excellent idea of what “G-Rated” means because for 5 years prior to working with Ruth Roberts Music she was on the ratings board for the Motion Picture Association of America.

About Ruth Roberts:

Several songs by Ruth Roberts are known to every sports fan: “Meet the Mets,” “It’s a Beautiful Day for a Ball Game,” and “Mr. Touchdown, USA.” Her love songs hit the charts in recordings by Dean Martin, Debbie Reynolds, Theresa Brewer, Jimmy Dean, The McGuire Sisters, Patti Page, Vic Damone, Arthur Godfrey, Steve Allen and Eydie Gorme.” Movie and TV viewers have heard Roberts’ songs in “Yes Man,” “The Benchwarmer,” “A Dirty Shame,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Seinfeld,” and the Conan O’Brien show.

The Beatles recorded Roberts’ song “Mailman Bring Me No More Blues,” which is on the Anthology 3 album. But it is for children’s music that Ruth Roberts may be best known, starting with her work with Bob Keeshan, who was the TV icon Captain Kangaroo.

“Teachers and educators can discover more about the many musicals written by Ruth Roberts for a K-through-grade-6 curriculum,” states Nicoletti.

About The Pit Stop Players:

The Pit Stop Players, founded in 2009 by conductor/composer Joshua Rosenblum, is a fourteen-member instrumental ensemble comprised of some of New York’s top freelance musicians, commonly regarded as the best instrumentalists in the world. Repertoire includes arrangements and transcriptions of great pieces from the recent past (encompassing numerous genres), but the primary emphasis is on new compositions that are both challenging and immediately engaging, written and orchestrated specifically for the group by today’s most exciting creative talents.

Since their first concert in February 2010, the Players have performed works by Bernstein, Ginastera, Shostakovich, John Psathas, William Bolcom, Danny Elfman, Paul McCartney, and Freddy Mercury, among others, as well as world premiere compositions by Steven Burke, David Chesky, Gary William Friedman, Jamie Lawrence, Fay Wang, Steve Kenyon, Josh Schmidt, and Michael Starobin. Other highlights have included the group’s performance of “The Rite of Spring” in a specially-commissioned new chamber arrangement, as well as Rosenblum’s own “Young Person’s Guide to the Pit Stop Players,” with special guest narrator Cynthia Nixon.

Cited by “The New York Times” for their “flair,” “spirited readings,” and “playfully cohesive programs,” “making an hour-long serving of modern works not just palatable but enticing,” the Pit Stop Players have take their place at the cutting edge of New York’s cultural landscape, bringing exciting contemporary music to new audiences, and upending conventional assumptions about concert programming.

Jefferson Memorial Park’s lush green lawn and ball fields transform into a giant backyard for all to enjoy over the course of the three-day festival from Friday, July 26 through Sunday, July 28, 2013. Located in Jefferson Park on Chicago’s Northwest side, Jeff Fest Arts & Music Festival has become one of Chicago’s most highly anticipated neighborhood music festivals of the summer.

“This year’s Jeff Fest Arts & Musical Festival there will be something for everyone and it’s worth grabbing your lawn chair, relaxing at the park, and listening to some great local and national bands,” said 45th Ward Alderman, John Arena. “This festival is meant for the whole community to enjoy. The cover show consists of fun hits from the ’80s through today, and the original show hosts catchy songs from the group’s own growing catalog. Setting no boundaries-and a fearless desire to play music full-time-keeps this band moving forward.

Saturday’s headliner includes Magic Box. Ed Anderson and Scott Tipping have been making music and mayhem together since the late ’90s. Ed moved on to found roots rock trio Backyard Tire Fire in 2001. Scott went on to become a mainstay of the Chicago music scene, playing and touring with bands like Backyard Tire Fire, The Mighty Blue Kings, Peter Himmelman, and Cornmeal. Today, Magic Box, along Chicago musical heavy-weights Steve Gillis (Filter), Scott Stevenson (Robbie Fulks, Dick Smith), and Matt Thompson (The Mighty Blue Kings, Frisbie), stay true to their rock-and-roll tradition while transitioning into a more dynamic, harmony-oriented sound. Most of their new EP has been featured on WXRT’s Local Anesthetic.

Sunday’s headliner includes Rock Ridge Music Recording Artist, Michael McDermott. McDermott is a singer and songwriter, performer and storyteller to the depths of his soul. He has an uncanny ability to communicate and connect with fans by way of universal truths through his own personal experiences. His 2012 release, Hit Me Back, represents a new chapter in his career as McDermott is a father, a philanthropic entrepreneur, and has experienced the loss of an adored parent. All are major life changes which have found achingly honest expression in his songs.

Ruth Roberts – Children’s Music Songwriter for All Seasons

Ruth RobertsLOS ANGELES, Calif., March 26, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Whatever holiday pops up on your calendar, two things are always true: kids are happy about it and the late Ruth Roberts wrote kids’ music to help you celebrate it.

“Children’s music was the special province of Ruth Roberts,” says Susan Nicoletti, Director of Operations for Goldenrod Music, the publishing company that oversees Roberts’ songs. “Her specialty was mining every holiday for its musical potential, often with lots of humor. Young kids especially love learning and singing along with her funny and pun-filled songs,” Nicoletti states.

The output of Roberts includes entire albums of songs for Spring, Easter, Valentine’s, St. Patrick’s, April Fools, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Halloween. “Each collection is part of a series of albums called ‘[Holiday Name] Songs That Tickle Your Funny Bone,’” Nicoletti points out, adding that songs may also be purchased individually.

“People will find the sing-a-long tunes on these collections to be fun for everyone, even the very youngest family members, plus they are all G-Rated,” Nicoletti states. She knows what “G-Rated” means because for five years prior to working with Ruth Roberts Music she was on the ratings board for the Motion Picture Association of America.

About Ruth Roberts:
Ruth Roberts wrote pop, gospel, rock, blues, country, sports, and children’s songs. Every sports fan knows some of Roberts’ work, from “Meet the Mets” to “It’s a Beautiful Day for a Ball Game” to “Mr. Touchdown, USA.” Beatles fans know that the Fab Four recorded ‘Mailman Bring Me No More Blues,’ which is on the ‘Anthology 3′ album, but they may not realize that the song was written by Roberts.

Love songs by Roberts hit the charts in recordings by Dean Martin, Debbie Reynolds, Theresa Brewer, Jimmy Dean, The McGuire Sisters, Patti Page, Vic Damone, Arthur Godfrey, Steve Allen and Eydie Gorme.” Movie and TV viewers have heard Roberts’ songs in “Yes Man,” “The Benchwarmer,” “A Dirty Shame,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Seinfeld,” and the Conan O’Brien show.

While her children’s music career began when she worked with Bob Keeshan, TV’s Captain Kangaroo, she also excelled in the area of educational songs. “Teachers and educators can discover more about the musicals written by Ruth Roberts for a K-through-grade-6 curriculum on the Ruth Roberts Music website,” states Nicoletti.

Hollywood Meets Nashville as Jane Bach, Sandra Piller and Special Guests Perform a Songwriter’s Round at Genghis Cohen

Jane Bach, Sandra Piller, Kyle Megginson, Kaela GardnerLOS ANGELES, Calif. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Hearing great songs in an up-close-and-personal setting is common in music-friendly towns like Nashville, but Hollywood is not to be outdone as Genghis Cohen presents a special Monday evening “songwriter’s round” on March 18 featuring Jane Bach, Sandra Piller, Kaela Gardner, and Kyle Megginson.

“We love this location for a songwriter’s round,” notes Jane Bach, organizer of the event. “It’s intimate, friendly, and offers terrific sound.” This special one-time performance will feature Bach, Shady Hill Records artist Sandra Piller, and special guests from the Los Angeles music scene: Ohio-born country girl Kaela Gardner grew up singing in church and has recorded with Disney, Disney Radio, Saddleback Church, and Upscale Records. Kyle Megginson went from studying theology to writing and performing songs and is now working on his second album.

Bach is the writer of one of Reba McEntire’s biggest hit songs, “The Last One to Know.”) She also wrote hits for Jo Dee Messina, Ray Price and others. A frequent performer at writer’s rounds in cities all around the country, Bach will be the evening’s host as well as one of the singers.

Piller will be performing numbers from her latest full album, “Days Like These,” and her new 6-song EP, “Love Goes On,” which is dedicated to her late husband, Michael. “It is great to see fans of my music as well as people who feel so close to Michael for all his great work,” Piller adds. “When Jane and I appear at Star Trek and Deep Space 9 conventions and events, the people who remember Michael with love just make my day.”

The performance space at Genghis Cohen is ideal for appreciating great material. “One of the best things about a writer’s round program is that you get to hear from the creator of a work that may have touched your life,” Bach notes, “and we love Genghis Cohen for this.”

Bach is a strong supporter of the Nashville songwriter-in-the-round format. “There’s nothing quite like it,” she states. “And you never know when you’ll be hearing a song that will become the next big hit,” Bach adds. The Genghis Cohen event will follow the classic format of the round, with all songwriters on stage at the same time. A writer plays one of their songs, followed by the next writer, and the next, and so on. The camaraderie and sharing is a delight to watch.

Genghis Cohen is located at 740 N. Fairfax Ave. (just North of Melrose), Hollywood, CA 90046. Phone: (323) 653-0640. The club has a full bar and restaurant and street parking is available. There is an $8 dollar cover. Showtime is 7:30 to 8:45pm.

International Chanteuse brings ‘THE LORD’S LOVER’ A Spiritual Sexpose to Hollywood’s Los Globos Cabaret Theater

Juliet AnnerinoHOLLYWOOD, Calif., Feb. 14, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Written and directed by international chanteuse, Juliet Annerino, “THE LORD’S LOVER” breaks conventional boundaries of modern stage with cabaret, performance art, live music, dramatic theater, exotic dance, and cutting edge video imagery. The intricacies of human sexuality and controversial themes of desire and free will are explored and celebrated. Surreal elegance, satirical drama and philosophical hi-jinks collide in this passionately charged exploration into the timeless mysteries of Love and God.

According to Annerino, “‘The Lord’s Lover’ is sexy, yet thought-provoking, playful, yet surprisingly poignant. World-renowned performance poet Jim Bolt emcees, in a white top hat and tails, leading us through the night’s adventures.”

Juliet will lead her band of cabaret/jazz musicians with “The Torch Ensemble.”

“The Lord’s Lover” will play Wednesday nights throughout March and April at the newly renovated Club Los Globos, making the most of the new lights, sounds and stage effects, and maximizing Los Globos’ charm and adaptive space to the creative flow of “The Lord’s Lover’s” multimedia style. Food and mixed drinks make this a great “dinner and a show” date night.

“The Lord’s Lover” is a true Labour of Love for its creator, Juliet, who has drawn on her keen observations of cultural and gender differences worldwide, as she’s toured and sung throughout Europe and the Middle East.

Gratefully and humbly Juliet seeks your assistance in supporting this production: “If you’d like to be an angel and pitch in to the Indiegogo.com fundraiser for the show, you’ll be rewarded with perks such as a signed ‘Declaration of Sainthood’ for a $100 donation, or even a ‘Day in the Life of a Deity’ for a $5,000 donation.”

Maybe, for the right price, you could get a date with the incomparable Juliet herself. Well… maybe a kiss…? (See: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/328764/ for details.)

‘Soul Music Week’ is February 15-24, 2013 – Music Fans to Support America’s Great Musical Form

SoulTracksDETROIT, Mich., Feb. 14, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — SoulTracks and soul music fans around the world are taking action to support soul music, one of the most revered forms of music in the world. From Motown to Memphis, from James Brown to Jill Scott, “soul music” is the sound of our lifetime. And while today broadcast radio focuses more on electronic pop and rap, “soul” continues to thrive in large halls, small clubs, family parties and on popular internet destinations like SoulTracks (www.Soultracks.com), America’s most popular soul music online magazine.

“We ran a string of articles highlighting the great soul music being made by both young and old artists around the world and the challenge those artists have in getting the attention of broadcast radio and mass media,” says SoulTracks Publisher Chris Rizik. “We were then inundated with comments from readers – readers who are passionate about soul music and who want to make a difference in supporting the music and the artists making it.”

The result is Soul Music Week 2013. Soul Music Week, which goes from February 15-24, 2013, is designed, according to Rizik, as “a week of discovery, connecting music fans with the great artists who continue to drive soul music forward.”

The concept for Soul Music Week is simple. Each music fan is being asked to do three things:
1. Buy a new Soul Music CD, either online or at a physical retailer;
2. Place a comment at SoulTracks’ Soul Music Week page, telling what you bought and how you like it; and
3. Spread the word to friends on Facebook, Twitter and other social media.

To see more about Soul Music Week, including music recommendations and a Facebook interface for comments, visit http://www.soulmusicweek.com/ .

SoulTracks has also created links to online stores as well as a directory of independent music retailers around the world at: http://www.soultracks.com/store_directory.htm .

Soul Music Week will not only show tangible support for the artists who are bringing great soul music to the world in 2013, it will also remind radio programmers, record companies and major media of the continued popularity of this unique form of music to millions of music lovers in the U.S. and around the world.

About SoulTracks:
SoulTracks (www.soultracks.com) is America’s #1 online magazine dedicated to classic and modern “soul music.” SoulTracks features hundreds of biographies of classic and modern soul artists as well as news, CD reviews, free music downloads, listening rooms and “Where Are They Now?” features. Proceeds from “The Mikado” will benefit the GO Project (www.goprojectnyc.org).

Bob Moog Foundation to Inspire the 2013 NAMM Show through Legendary Instruments and Archival Exploration

ASHEVILLE, N.C. and ANAHEIM, Calif., Jan. 21, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The Bob Moog Foundation (BMF) will celebrate the indelible nature of the synthesizer pioneer’s legacy at the 2013 NAMM Show in Anaheim, California. Beginning on Thursday, January 24, NAMM attendees will have opportunities to see and hear demonstrations of vintage Moog instruments and explore rarely seen archival material from the Bob Moog Foundation Archives.

Front and center at the Foundation’s booth at NAMM (#5307) will be rock musician Erik Norlander’s modular Moog synthesizer known as the Wall of Doom. Encompassing more than 100 modules (including 22 oscillators), many built between 1967 and 1972, the Wall of Doom is a touring configuration of the legendary synthesizer that gave birth to an industry. Norlander and the Foundation collaborated three years ago to reconfigure the massive instrument into a portable, rack-mounted version. Four of the instrument’s six racks will be on display at NAMM, a number limited by the BMF booth’s floor space.

Marc Doty, Archive and Education Specialist for the Bob Moog Foundation, will demonstrate the Wall of Doom at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. from Thursday through Sunday.

Also featured will be one of the few duophonic Minimoogs in the world. Recently donated to the BMF by Tom Coppola, the Minimoog was modified by Doug Slocum of Synthetic Sound Labs in the late 1970s. Of particular note is Coppola’s use of the synthesizer to create the signature three-note Duracell sound. Slocum will be present to demonstrate the instrument at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. each day.

On Saturday, January 26, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in room 203 A-B, the Bob Moog Foundation will present “Exploring Bob Moog’s Archives with Michael Boddicker” at NAMM’s H.O.T. Zone. BMF Executive Director Michelle Moog-Koussa and Marc Doty will join Michael Boddicker, legendary Grammy Award-winning film composer (Flashdance, 1984) and session synthesist (Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie). Boddicker is three-time N.A.R.A.S. Most Valuable Player “Synthesizer” award winner and an MVP Emeritus. He was winner of Keyboard magazine’s Reader’s Poll Award – Best Studio Synthesist in 1986 and 1987 and Best Session Player in 1988.

Together, the panel will explore rare archival material including photographs, project notes, vintage catalogs, audio from restored reel-to-reel tapes, vintage ads and articles, and more. Boddicker, who has over 700 album credits to his name, will lend a musician’s perspective, speaking from his vast experience with the wide variety of early Moog instruments used throughout his career, including some that are quite rare.

In addition, the Foundation is encouraging NAMM attendees to bring their photos of Bob Moog at NAMM to the BMF booth, where we’ll create a “Remembering Bob at NAMM” wall.

A Family Sing-a-Long Christmas from Ruth Roberts Music

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Christmas time is family time and many an old-fashioned yuletide celebration will have several generations gathered around the fireplace to sing songs of the season. Extending that tradition, Ruth Roberts Music presents a collection of family-friendly songs on the album “Christmas Songs That Tickle Your Funny Bone,” now available on iTunes.

“All the joys of the season are in these entertaining and lighthearted songs,” states Susan Nicoletti, Director of Operations for Goldenrod Music, the publishing company overseeing the songs of the late Ruth Roberts. “The tunes on this collection are great for the whole family, even the youngest ones.” Prior to working with Ruth Roberts Music, Nicoletti spent five years serving on the ratings board for the Motion Picture Association of America, so she knows what “G-Rated” means.

Ruth Roberts created songs in virtually every genre (pop, gospel, rock, blues, country, sports, children’s) and enjoyed great success with love songs. “Her romantic ballads and playful up-tempo tunes would often be on the charts,” Nicoletti notes. “Her songs were recorded by many stars, including Dean Martin, Debbie Reynolds, Theresa Brewer, Jimmy Dean, The McGuire Sisters, Patti Page, Vic Damone, Arthur Godfrey, Steve Allen and Eydie Gorme.” In addition, movie and TV viewers have heard Roberts’ songs in “Yes Man,” “The Benchwarmer,” “A Dirty Shame,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Seinfeld,” and the Conan O’Brien show.

Every sports fan knows some of Roberts’ work, from “Meet the Mets” to “It’s a Beautiful Day for a Ball Game” to “Mr. Touchdown, USA.” Fans of the Beatles probably know that the Fab Four recorded “Mailman Bring Me No More Blues,” which is on the “Anthology 3″ album. But they may not realize that song was written by Roberts. “The Beatles weren’t the only ones covering that song. There are also versions by Buddy Holly, Oliver Nelson, and Lefty Frizzell,” says Nicoletti.

It is for children’s music that Ruth Roberts may be best known, starting with her work with Bob Keeshan, who was the TV icon Captain Kangaroo. As a teenager, Roberts was influenced by Broadway shows and this resulted in her writing full-length and mini-musicals for elementary schools, all of which appeal to the “Glee” fan in everyone. Teachers and educators can discover more about her musicals written for a K-through-grade-6 curriculum by visiting the Michael Brent Publications website at michaelbrent(dot)com.

In addition to music for business and restaurant music, on-hold messaging and office music are also powerful tools. For example, 60 percent of all callers will be placed on hold and it’s important to make the best use of that time.

On-hold messaging provides callers with customized on-hold messages that are designed to give specific information about the business’ products, services and current promotions. This on-hold messaging service creates sales opportunities, reduces callers perceived wait time, and more.

Sirius Radio for business is another ideal way to entertain and engage customers. This licensed in-store music service provides 69 commercial-free channels made available to nearly all American businesses located in the United States. This service can also be used for music on hold.

“Currently, we are the nation’s largest provider of Sirius music for business,” Santangelo says. “Sirius music for business provides the most up-to-date, dynamic background music programming that satellite radio has to offer. It allows businesses to give customers the same Sirius programming that they may already enjoy in their cars or homes while establishing a mutual connection the moment they walk through the door.”

The fact is that a happy environment drives bigger sales. And which tool is used all depends on the business’ specific needs. If a business wants to promote and reinforce its brand while shoppers are making purchasing decisions, in-store messaging may be the way to go. If a restaurant wants customers to linger at the bar, restaurant music may be the answer.

“What all services have in common is that they all work to maximize time with customers to increase a business’ bottom line,” Santangelo says.

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, Dance Dance: James Bond Theme Songs Go EDM

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The explosions you hear on “License to Thrill: The Secret Dance Mission” are all of the sonic variety. In this new collection of EDM (Electronic Dance Music), the dozen recordings use no drones, no bombs, and no weaponry other than keyboards, guitars, drums, and turntables. “This is EDM that shakes hips and thumps your chest,” notes producer and co-writer Peter Roberts speaking about the songs that are now being offered to DJs in clubs around the globe.

Boosted by the record-breaking box-office returns of the most recent James Bond 007 film, “Skyfall,” the new tracks take the iconic songs from many great Bond movies and present them in hard-charging, electrifying, and high-energy versions. “We’re seeing club dance floors really fill up when these tracks are unleashed through a big sound system,” Roberts states.

Performers on “License to Thrill: The Secret Dance Mission” include such international dance music hit-makers as Jesschelle, Lisa Frazier, Vann, Charly, Aleesha, and Pepper MaShay. Songs include “Live and Let Die,” “All Time High,” “Diamonds are Forever,” “A View to a Kill,” “Thunderball,” and “Moonraker.”

Peter Roberts is a multiple award winning and five-time Grammy award nominated songwriter and producer (his Grammy noms were for “Song of the Year,” “Album Of The Year,” “Record Of The Year,” “Best Song written for a Motion Picture Soundtrack,” and “Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.”) Classically trained, Roberts is a multi-instrumentalist, arranger and programmer whose successes have come in such genres as EDM, R&B, Pop, Rock, Classical, Hip Hop, Latin, Ethnic and Smooth Jazz.

Legendary Synthesist Roger Powell Donates a Piece of Music History to the Bob Moog Foundation

Roger Powell and Bob Moog 1974ASHEVILLE, N.C. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — In celebration of its recent six-year anniversary, the non-profit Bob Moog Foundation is pleased to announce a generous donation from American synthesist Roger Powell: a dual-manual keyboard that Moog Music custom built for him in 1974. The keyboard, which Powell acquired shortly after joining Todd Rundgren’s Utopia, was part of a synthesizer comprising two Moog System 55 cabinets housing a host of modules.

“The keyboard was designed to my specifications,” says Powell. “Bob himself worked on the mixer circuit design.” Powell had been doing clinics for Moog Music in the U.S. and Europe, sometimes with Bob Moog when the system was assembled for touring with Utopia.

Like a lot of Moog gear, Powell’s keyboard comes with a fascinating story:

“After the first evening of a two-night booking in Cleveland, the custom keyboard was stolen from the stage. Strangely, the modular system cabinets were left untouched. My guess is that the thief believed the keyboard itself to be playable, as it resembled a two-manual organ. A few years later, the System 55s were destroyed in a warehouse fire, thus removing all remnants of the original system.

“In 2002, much to my surprise, the missing keyboard was listed on eBay. The person offering the keyboard had no idea it had been stolen and was not the thief. (He was younger than the age of the keyboard.) I was able to negotiate its return and have held onto it since, hoping to refurbish it but never completing that project.

“After Bob’s demise and the creation of the Bob Moog Foundation, it occurred to me that the custom keyboard deserved to be in a place where it can serve as my personal tribute to my dear friend Bob Moog. Bob and I spent some very happy times together; I will always remember laughing a lot with him, as we both shared an acerbic, wisecracking sense of humor.”

The Bob Moog Foundation is honored to accept Powell’s donation, and we look forward to restoring the keyboard to its original condition. Our goal is to display it publicly so that, in Powell’s words, “People can enjoy seeing it and hearing about its interesting past.”

The Bob Moog Foundation is quick becoming a repository for a variety of donated artifacts from music and synthesizer enthusiasts from all over the world. The foundation is stewarding the preservation of donated items including: synthesizers, controllers, photos, schematics, correspondence, equipment, literature and more. Interested donors can contact the foundation at info@moogfoundation.org.

Cristelle’s Music Breaks Out of Clubs and onto Soundtracks

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — While DJs at nightclubs are using Cristelle’s “Breakdown” to keep dance floors filled, her recordings are also playing on the soundtracks of television programs across a wide spectrum of entertainment.

Cristelle’s song “Dance My Life Away,” the title of which seems to sum up part of her approach to the world, has had two placements. The first was in the Cinemax production of “Femmes Fatales” and the second was in the VH1 series, “Basketball Wives.”

There have also been two placements for Cristelle’s “Gonna Love You,” the first in the CW series “Shedding for the Wedding” and the second in the long-running and iconic CBS series, “The Young and the Restless.”

“No Rush,” a song whose title is the antithesis of Cristelle’s non-stop schedule, was featured in the Lifetime network motion picture, “The Natalee Holloway Story.”

“While making music is such a joy for me, it’s sometimes hard to concentrate on the business side of things,” Cristelle admits, “but fortunately there’s a great team of experts who look after all the connections and placements. The success they’ve had is really exhilarating for me.”

“Working with Cristelle is exciting,” notes her producer, Peter Roberts. “We’re all very pleased with the use of ‘Breakdown’ in clubs and expect that this song will start to appear on soundtracks of motion pictures and television programs along with the other great tunes that are already placed.”

Many of Cristelle’s songs reflect her upbeat personality. “Living life to the fullest” seems to be her motto. “I’m always an on-the-go type of girl,” says the 23-year-old singer, dancer, and model. In particular, the “Breakdown” single celebrates the enthusiasm of youth, the headiness of love, and the continual quest for sharing good times.

About Cristelle
For Cristelle, her love of performing became evident about the time she learned to walk. She feels fortunate that her family was involved with music and the arts, “so I was always surrounded by singers, actors, and artists,” she notes happily. Cristelle earned a spot in Los Angeles High School for the Performing Arts and spent one season with Disney On Ice performing in “High School Musical.”

Cristelle Music Online
A music video for “Breakdown” is now on YouTube and the single is available for sale on iTunes and Amazon. Her first album, “Rush,” will be released later this year by BDM Records. As with the single, the producer is Peter Roberts, who has had more than 250 of his songs recorded by artists in almost every genre, including Irene Cara and jazz superstar George Benson.
