NCGA House of Representatives to Honor Hoogstra, Hendersonville Hospice Contributions with Resolution

Jean Moulthrop Hoogstra

RALEIGH, N.C., April 27, 2015 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — A resolution recognizing the importance of hospice care and honoring the memory of a western North Carolina visionary and Four Seasons Compassion for Life founder Jean Moulthrop Hoogstra is slated to be read this evening from the floor of the House of Representatives today.

House Resolution 842, “Honor Hendersonville Hospice,” is sponsored by Representatives Chuck McGrady (R-District 117) and Chris Whitmire (R-District 113), in honor of Hoogstra’s role in the development of hospice care in the western part of the state.

Jean Moulthrop Hoogstra (1916-2012), is widely considered the matriarch of Four Seasons Compassion for Life, according to Chief Executive Officer Chris Comeaux.

“In 1977, she relocated to Hendersonville with her then-husband, Dick Moulthrop,” he recalls. “As her church was looking for an outreach program, she and a small group of volunteers decided to attend a workshop on hospice.”

The result of that workshop was the creation of the committee that would form the Hospice of Henderson County, Inc., in 1979. At the time, only two hospices were operating in the United States to offer physical, emotional and spiritual support to patients and their families at end of life. It was a mission for a lifetime, and Hoogstra and a committee of volunteers would carry the message across the western part of the state.

“It seemed so logical,” Hoogstra, who died in 2012, would later say “to treat dying as a natural event, to relieve pain and suffering, and to give care and support to patients and caregivers at end of life.”

The Hospice of Henderson County served its first patient in 1981. But Hoogstra’s commitment didn’t stop there. She continued to work for more than 30 years as a hospice volunteer, receiving the Judith Lund Person Award by the Carolina Center for End of Life Care in 2011.

Today, the hospice to which Hoogstra dedicated her life has served more than 10,000 patients and families. The resolution also recounts and applauds Four Seasons’ years of exemplary service during Hoogstra’s tenure, including the:
* 1999 opening of Elizabeth House, an in-patient residence
* 2003 addition of its palliative care program
* 2005 national recognition as a clinical research department
* 2009 renaming of Four Seasons Compassion for Life
* 2009 Circle of Life Award for innovative care.

Following an afternoon meeting with General Assembly Chairman of the Senate Rules Committee, Senator Tom Apodaca (R-District 48), Comeaux will be attend the resolution’s reading on the floor of the state House.

“My heart is full,” says Comeaux. “We have always been committed to a quality care experience for the citizens of western North Carolina. Inspired by our Hendersonville roots, we’ve taken what we’ve learned, and shared that knowledge throughout our region, as well as nationally and internationally. Jean set an example of vision and action we have been proud to emulate. Because of her, our staff and volunteers have touched many people’s lives.”

About the Resolution:

Homecare-Friendly Long-Term Care Plans from ACSIA Partners Let Seniors Continue Living at Home and Save Money Too

Denise Gott

KIRKLAND, Wash., April 27, 2015 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Many people envision long-term care insurance as a means of paying the bills when they move into a care facility. If you’re one of them, “You should widen your vision,” says Denise Gott, CEO of ACSIA Partners, an industry leader. “LTC insurance also pays for care in one’s own home. But some policies do a better job of it than others.” Today ACSIA Partners announces a campaign to promote Homecare-Friendly LTC plans.

Gott points out that long-term care insurance comes in many forms, not all of them ideal for home care. “There are two broad categories of policies,” she says, “reimbursement policies and cash policies. With a reimbursement policy you submit bills for approval and subsequent payment, which is usually made to an institution. With a cash policy you get monthly benefit checks that you can use however you wish, giving you great freedom in hiring whatever services whenever you want.”

People who prefer to “age in place” (at home) may be better off with a cash policy, according to Gott. But reimbursement policies have their advantages, and some are more friendly to home care than others. “With our approach, we guide clients to the most suitable policies from multiple leading carriers,” says Gott.

Receiving care in one’s own home is not only preferred by many; it can also be easier on the pocketbook, Gott points out. According to the Genworth 2015 Cost of Long-Term Care Survey, the national average cost of a private room in a nursing home is now $91,250 per year, up 4.17% from 2014. Assisted living facility costs now average $43,200 per year, up 2.86% from last year, according to the study. Serious money.

By contrast, care services provided in the home or community can be relatively modest if used judiciously. Homemaker services are now $20 per hour, up 2.63% from 2014. Home health aide services are also $20 per hour, up 1.27%. Adult day care center costs now run $69 per day, up 5.94% from 2014.

At $20 per hour, in-home care services would run $20,800 per year if utilized 4 hours per day 5 days a week. Adult day care services would run $17,940 per year if utilized 5 days a week.

With lower anticipated costs, a less expensive LTC policy might be appropriate. “Our agents serve all kinds of needs of individuals and organizations,” says Gott. “If a client prefers in-home care, a Homecare-Friendly plan will be recommended.”

ACSIA Partners includes a few hundred state-certified agents covering all parts of the country. To get in touch with one, just go to the company’s website — http://www.acsiapartners.com/ — and submit an inquiry form.

ACSIA Partners LLC (in California, xACSIA Partners Insurance Agency LLC) is one of America’s largest and most experienced long-term care insurance solution agencies. The company is also a co-founder and sponsor of the “3in4 Need More” campaign, run by the 3in4 Association, which encourages Americans to form a long-term care plan.

Innovative Technique to Cover Up Tattoos at BLVD Tattoo Studio

Justin Iahdalma

JESSUP, Md., April 23, 2015 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Washington Boulevard Tattoo Studio is the newest studio in Maryland to adopt an innovative technology, the all-natural Tatt2Away(R) non-laser tattoo removal system from Rejuvatek Medical. Not only will this patented technique totally remove an existing tattoo, but it also offers a unique opportunity for those individuals seeking to cover up their existing tattoo.

Unlike lasers that have been the gold standard for tattoo removal, this unique patented technology removes all colors of a tattoo, is only as painful as when the existing tattoo was administered, and requires fewer treatments, allowing it to be less costly.

“The main complaint we were hearing from our customers regarding laser tattoo removal was that they didn’t work very well for what it cost and the amount of time and pain you had to go through,” stated Justin Iahdalma, co-founder with Zack Volatile, of Blvd. Tattoo Studio, who are proud to announce bringing to the Jessop Maryland area another option to the cover up requests of their body work customers.

“The expression of oneself is what tattooing is all about, and when that expression doesn’t go as planned, all you could do in the past was cover it up. You now have another, better and economical option,” stated Volatile.

Blvd. Tattoo Studio is teaming up with Tatt2Away(R), the 3.0 of Tattoo cover up. Utilizing the most effective method of “erasing” tattoo ink and pigment from the skin, the cover up process, that uses the Tatt2Away(R) removal method can modify the unwanted tattoo. This brings limitless options to tattoo cover ups, and does not necessarily mean a larger, darker tattoo.

Contact Justin and Zack directly at washingtonblvdtattoo@gmail.com to find out the details of the innovative Tatt2Away tattoo removal or cover up process.

A Healthier Home, Hendersonville, N.C., Announces Expansion of Services, Area

Rick Bayless

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C., April 21, 2015 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Homeowners with serious health concerns can now get the intervention expertise they need, thanks to new EnviroVention(TM) services from Rick Bayless’ A Healthier Home, western North Carolina’s leading environmental home inspection provider.

A Healthier Home – www.RickBaylessHealthyHome.com – provides consultative services such as mold and air quality inspections, energy audits, weatherization services, and home health assessments to Asheville and surrounding areas. Effective April 1, these service areas will expand to include Greensboro, S.C., and Spartanburg, S.C.

Focusing on quality of life inside the home, A Healthier Home inspection places attention on environmental health risks for home owners and home purchasers, anticipating and addressing problems before these become a serious issue which could affect the healthiness of the home. These specialized areas of concern are not covered by a standard home inspection, which often leaves unanswered questions about mold, chemical pollutants, management of air, moisture, and dust, as well as energy efficiency and comfort conditions.

“We define the specific corrective and preventative measures that are both effective and saves the homeowner money,” says Bayless.

But more recently, Bayless sees a rising demand for health-related services focused on intervention. In these cases, unhealthy conditions can make it more difficult for those who are at risk or living with health concerns to remain in their homes. The EnviroVention(TM) program is designed to consider the systems which make up the home ecosystem, intervene where needed, and support the specific health goals of its occupants.

“An environmental intervention can contribute meaningfully to symptom management for those who struggle to maintain optimum wellness in the face of illness,” he says.

A Healthier Home is western North Carolina’s leading environmental home inspection provider. Learn more about ensuring a green and healthy home at http://www.ahealthierhomenc.com/ or address wellness concerns through systemic intervention with http://www.envirovention.com/ .

Mountain Home Care Adds Nursing Services to In-Home Care, Addresses Gap in Patient Needs

Lesley Bratro

ENKA, N.C., April 21, 2015 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — What happens when an aging individual needs more in-home care than Medicare or insurance provides? The recent addition of licensed nursing services by Mountain Home Care addresses the existing and widening gap between patient needs and the amount of skilled care insurance providers cover.

The addition of a professional nurse to a family’s care giving efforts can make all the difference in managing the demands of in-home care, according to Lana Wilde, owner of Mountain Home Care. The addition of nursing services adds depth to the licensed service provider’s ability to provide quality professional services at home, where clients feel safest and happiest.

“We know this is a way to help some individuals stay in their homes and live independently for a longer period of time,” she says. “We support that effort.”

In 1997, the Institute of Medicine released a landmark report, suggesting elders do not receive the care they need, calling for reform. In 2011, the IOM issued a benchmark survey, “The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health,” identifying “significant gaps in care” across nursing settings. Most recently, a 2014 research group found those gaps were widening, identifying what patients need most: support care from trained caregivers.

Since opening its doors more than 12 years ago, Mountain Home Care has always maintained registered nurses to perform assessments and to be on-call at all times. Today, in-home nursing services are a welcome addition to its client care-giving options, and are provided under a doctor’s written order. The referring physician also supervises the nurses and gives directions for their patients, says Wilde.

“This allows us to help the client who is no longer eligible for home health care under their insurance, yet who remains unable to provide for their needs on their own,” says Lesley Bratro, registered nurse and agency director.

For example, an individual with a wound that is progressively healing may find that Medicare won’t cover costs for someone to come to their home to do a simple dressing, even if they cannot do it themselves.

“Who is going to do that for them?” asks Bratro. “We can now help them with that.”

Similarly, an individual whose medication needs were formerly met by a home health provider may find themselves without assistance when their home health care benefits are no longer in effect. By comparison, the Mountain Home Care client who receives nursing services will be able to ask their nurse to fill medication organizers, monitor for errors, and make certain medications are taken on time and correctly. These measures add up to reduced risk for emergency room visits, especially for elderly patients.

“Many family caregivers also have jobs or children making it difficult for them to be with a loved one as often as needed,” says Wilde. “Knowing a well-qualified professional is handling those types of details takes worry away and provides peace of mind for the family.”

As the health care community and services change to meet current needs, increasing amounts of care is required to be done at home by nurses, says Wilde, who sees nurses as leaders in the “continuum of care” clients deserve.

“We’re not trying to take the place of home health care. We can’t. But we can fill the gap they cannot.”

Since 2003, Mountain Home Care, Arden, remains the leading provider of private home care, geriatric care management and skilled nursing services in western North Carolina. Download your copy of the free “Home Care Guide” at http://www.mountainhomecare.com/ .

End of a Made-Up Measles Crisis

Harte of Chiropractic

CORTE MADERA, Calif., April 21, 2015 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — On Friday, April 17, the “Great Disney Measles Epidemic” was declared over by state health officials. Dr. Don Harte, noted Marin chiropractic activist, says “I am far more amused than relieved. This whole episode should be one of shame for medicine, and all of the associated political and big pharma troublemakers who sought to profit from it.”

“The final toll,” Dr. Harte states, “is 131 measles cases in California, and 25 cases in seven other states, Canada and Mexico. No deaths! With all of the hoopla and hysteria, one would think that it was something as deadly as Ebola.”

“Big Medicine and Big Pharma have perpetrated a campaign of fear, not for the public good, but purely for the marketing of vaccinations,” says Dr. Harte. He goes on, “The degree of absurdity of this alleged measles epidemic is astounding. They have elevated a minor childhood disease, measles, which virtually all children got and recovered from two generations ago. No one from that time period, including myself, had ever heard of anyone dying from measles. Then, to call this an ‘epidemic,’ or even an ‘outbreak,’ with 131 cases out of 37.2 million people in California, is laughable.”

In response to SB277, the California bill which would eliminate the personal belief vaccine exemption, including religious exemption: “I am outraged that the PMMG (Pharmaceutical-Medical-Media-Governmental) Complex created this crisis out of nothing, and used it to push their agenda for universal mandatory vaccination.” Dr. Harte defines the situation: “We see a fake crisis to push a pseudo-scientific solution that does not work and is causing great harm on a mass scale, while destroying both the most basic of freedoms, to be secure in one’s person, and that most basic of societal imperatives, the relationship of parent to child.”

Dr. Harte has written and stated numerous times that vaccinations subvert normal immune pathways, thereby unable to create true immunization, while injecting numerous know toxic substances.

“Biologically,” Dr. Harte explains, “vaccination is poisoning children, and then targeting their immune system for dysfunction. You cannot expect to prevent disease like this. Certainly, you cannot expect health in children by poisoning them. Most certainly, a poison certified as safe by some medical authority is still a poison.”

Dr. Harte often quotes Thomas Jefferson: “When the people allow government to tell them what foods to eat and what medicines to take, their bodies will be in as sorry a state as the souls of those who live under tyranny.”

“Today, indeed,” Dr. Harte says, “we live with medical tyranny, and it’s getting worse.”

About Dr. Don Harte:

Dr. Don Harte, former medical student, is a straight chiropractor serving Marin and the Greater Bay Area since 1981. He is an activist in the struggle for free speech for chiropractors. Dr. Harte was named 2006 “Chiropractor of the Year” by the World Chiropractic Alliance (WCA). He has served on the Boards of the WCA and the Council on Chiropractic Practice. The California Tuberculosis Controllers Association (CTCA) releases a Universal Adult Tuberculosis Risk Assessment today to tackle TB in California

TB Flashmob

OAKLAND, Calif., March 24, 2015 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Contrary to popular belief, tuberculosis (TB) has not been eliminated in the U.S. With 2145 cases of active TB in 2014, California alone has 23 percent of the nation’s TB cases. However, this represents only a small fraction of the estimated 2.5 million Californians infected with TB. The California Tuberculosis Controllers Association (CTCA) released a Universal Adult TB Risk Assessment today to support efforts to find those infected with TB, ensure they are treated before they get sick, and successfully eliminate TB.

Public health experts have been spread particularly thin this year, implementing precautions to identify and contain ebola followed closely by an extensive measles outbreak. Meanwhile, TB outbreaks are limited because of the constant attention, vigilance, and ongoing efforts of TB experts at the local and state level.

In order to support TB elimination efforts in California, CTCA is releasing a Universal Adult Risk Assessment for TB. This tool will help medical providers identify patients at greatest risk for having TB infection and developing and therefore spreading TB disease. CTCA celebrated this release with a flash mob in Berkeley on Saturday, March 21.

“Putting a Universal Adult Risk Assessment for TB into the hands of medical providers will help them identify who is most at risk for getting sick with TB,” says CTCA Communications Committee Chair Julie Vaishampayan, MD, MPH. “These are the people that we need to treat for TB infection before they get sick. TB infection treatment is the only way to prevent progression to TB disease.”

TB can be serious and life-threatening but treatable and curable. TB is spread when a person with active TB bacteria in their lungs coughs and the bacteria are released into the air. People who breathe in this same air can become infected. When a person is infected with TB, they may not develop TB disease or show any signs or symptoms for months or years, but then, they too can spread TB to others continuing the cycle.

“We can’t be complacent just because progression from infection to disease takes a little while,” says CTCA President Michael Stacey, MD, MPH. “TB is an old persistent global plague, and it’s important to remember that it kills 1.5 million each year and 2 billion are infected. Here in California, TB kills one out of ten people diagnosed with TB disease.”

Addressing Public Health concerns such as ebola, measles, and TB is the responsibility of local Public Health Departments. No one else does this work, yet these services are threatened by shrinking resources and increasing workload demands.

“Public health programs must have adequate resources to ensure that TB does not spread,” says Linda Civitello, President and CEO of Breathe California. “Airborne infectious diseases like TB know no borders.”

Tuberculosis (TB) Risk Assessment Questionnaire replaces universal TB testing requirement for school employees, volunteers and contractors

Das Williams

OAKLAND, Calif., Dec. 10, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The California Tuberculosis Controllers Association (CTCA) announces, effective Jan. 1, 2015, Pre-K and K-12 public, private and parochial school employees, volunteers (with frequent and prolonged student contact) and contractors are required to get a tuberculosis (TB) test only when TB risk factors are identified. Previously, California law required all such persons to undergo a TB test, regardless of whether or not they actually had risk factors for tuberculosis.

Assembly Bill (AB) 1667, authored by Assembly Member Das Williams, replaces the universally required TB test with a TB risk assessment, reflecting current federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) targeted TB testing recommendations. Williams championed this update in the law, saying, “the best public health and medical evidence suggests that universal TB testing is neither necessary nor cost-effective. Targeted screening will continue to protect our state’s teachers, volunteers, school employees, and children from tuberculosis.”

The new law requires the use of a Pre-K and K-12 TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire and Certificate of Completion form from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). A licensed health care provider, including registered nurses, must administer the assessment within 60 days of hire.

* If NO risk factors are identified, the screening is complete, and the process repeats every four years.
* If TB risk factors are identified, a TB test is required. If the test is positive, it must be followed by a chest x-ray to exclude active infectious TB disease.
* If a person has a documented positive TB test for infection followed by an x-ray, the Pre-K and K-12 TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire and TB test are no longer required. However, the person will need to self-report to his or her primary care physician if signs of TB develop (i.e., prolonged cough, coughing up blood, fever, night sweats, weight loss, excessive fatigue).

At the next regularly scheduled TB test, current school employees, volunteers and contractors are required to submit to the Pre-K and K-12 TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire or a TB test. A TB test can be administered instead of the Questionnaire, should it be requested.

CTCA, in partnership with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) TB Control Branch, the California School Nurses Organization (CSNO) and the California Department of Education (CDE), have developed materials supporting the implementation of AB 1667:

The following documents, are linked from the Program Resources page (link: http://ctca.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=menu&menu_id=5004 ):
– Pre-K and K-12 TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire.
– Frequently Asked Questions document.

Varicose to Perfect Receives Vein Center Accreditation by The IAC

Superficial Venous Treatment

DAYTON, Ohio, Dec. 2, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Varicose to Perfect, state of the art vein treatment centers with offices in Springboro and Dayton, Ohio, have been granted accreditation in Superficial Venous Treatment and Management by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC).

The IAC grants accreditation only to those facilities that are found to provide the highest quality patient care, in compliance with national standards through a comprehensive application process including a detailed review of selected patient procedures. Such are the rigorous standards of the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission, that Varicose to Perfect is one of only 24 centers in the United States and only 3 vein centers in Ohio to have received this prestigious accreditation.

Accreditation by the IAC means that Varicose to Perfect has voluntarily undergone a thorough review of its operational and technical components by a panel of experts. During the accreditation process, applicant vein centers must submit documentation on every aspect of their daily operations and the performance and management of venous disorders.

IAC accreditation is widely respected within the medical community, as illustrated by the support of the national medical societies related to superficial venous disorders, which include physicians, physician extenders, nurses and ultrasound technologists. It is a “seal of approval” that patients can rely on as an indication that the vein center’s processes and procedures have been carefully evaluated by medical experts in the field of treatment and management of superficial venous disorders.

More than one half of Americans age 50 and older are affected by varicose veins. Varicose Veins occur when the valves in the leg veins no longer function, causing blood to pool in the legs. In some cases, this condition progresses to a more serious form of venous disease called chronic venous insufficiency (CVI).

Whether to relieve symptoms and/or improve appearance, treating varicose veins can be performed by vein centers that specialize in the evaluation and management of superficial venous disorders. There are many facets that contribute to a positive patient outcome: successful treatment of the venous disorder, the training and experience of the vein specialist performing the procedure, the type of equipment used, and the quality assessment metrics each facility is required to measure.

Varicose to Perfect is led by Dr. Sukir Sinnathamby, an interventional vascular physician and long-term resident of the Dayton, Ohio area. Dr. Sinnathamby specializes in non-invasive evaluations, diagnostic angiograms, and vascular procedures. As a highly skilled, Board Certified physician with decades of experience in endovascular medicine, Dr. Sinnathamby provides the very best in comprehensive patient care for those seeking relief from their varicose and spider vein symptoms.

“Varicose to Perfect decided to seek IAC Vein Center Accreditation because we are committed to delivering the very best quality of care. We are proud to be deemed one of the top vein centers in the nation,” says Dr. Sinnathamby.

When scheduling a vein center procedure, patients are encouraged to inquire as to the accreditation status of the facility where their treatment and management will be performed and can learn more by visiting www.intersocietal.org/vein/main/patients/htm.

Sustaining Local Expertise, Responding to Global Health Threats

Tuberculosis control

OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 28, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Ebola is dominating the news headlines, bringing public health into the spotlight. Tragically, thousands have died. In the U.S., public health departments everywhere are quickly learning about Ebola and taking measures to prevent an epidemic here; but they are not starting from scratch, says the California Tuberculosis Controllers Association (CTCA).

The essential skills required when responding to Ebola, such as contact tracing, isolation, quarantine and proper wearing and removal of personal protective equipment are all familiar. They do these things everyday to combat diseases such as tuberculosis.

One third of the world is infected with Tuberculosis, or TB. That’s over 2 billion people. TB kills 1.3 million people each year worldwide. TB is a threat not just in other countries but also here in the United States. Every 4 hours a Californian is diagnosed with TB, and while there are medications to treat most strains of TB, about 9 percent of all Californians diagnosed with TB will not recover.

“With 2,170 cases of TB reported last year in the state and a nearly 10 percent death rate, we must maintain robust TB control programs to control and prevent this airborne threat every day,” said Michael Stacey, President of the California TB Controllers Association. “We need strong stable programs to work toward TB elimination and strong TB programs to provide the capacity to respond quickly to emerging health threats like Ebola.”

“In Alameda County TB control, we work with private providers in the community to rapidly identify and isolate suspected TB cases, and we work to identify people who have been exposed and possibly infected across the county,” said Dr. Erica Pan, Deputy Health Officer of Alameda County. “Our preparations for Ebola just build upon the existing infectious disease experience and expertise of our public health doctors and nurses in partnership with community providers and their routine work of controlling TB throughout Alameda County.”

TB is spread from person to person through the air when a person with active TB coughs and those around them breathe in the bacteria. Some people will live with TB infection without ever developing active TB disease. Others will progress to active TB that can spread from one person to another through the air. Californians need to know their risks, talk with their health care provider about their risks and get tested and treated if recommended.

“Public health TB programs protect the health of the public every day by finding and treating active cases of TB in our communities. To protect us all, they make sure that TB is treated regardless of a patient’s insurance status or ability to pay.” said Margo Sidener, President and CEO, Breathe California. “To eliminate TB and to respond to new emerging threats, public health needs stable resources. The current Ebola situation is a stark reminder of the importance of these programs. Since the Great Recession, public health program funding has been cut nationwide, and NOW is the time to reinforce these programs.”

New Discovery Opens the Door to Possible Cure for Heart Disease

Dr. Larry Weisenthal

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., July 21, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Larry Weisenthal, M.D., Ph.D., today announced new findings that unravel mysteries about the root cause of atherosclerosis – the narrowing of blood vessels that leads to heart attack and stroke. It is a big step toward developing drugs, possibly in the very near future, that prevent the most common forms of heart disease.

Larry Weisenthal, M.D., Ph.D., is a physician and researcher. He has discovered a previously unknown biological mechanism that accounts for vascular calcification – hardening of the arteries. Dr. Weisenthal has named the new mechanism MCED (pronounced EM-sed). It stands for Massively Calcified Endosome Death. By targeting MCED with new drugs, he feels it should be possible to stop vascular calcification from occurring, even among individuals with high cholesterol.

“Cholesterol levels probably won’t matter,” says Dr. Weisenthal, “at the end of the day the most important cause of arterial blockage may be the presence or absence of circulating MCED factors.”

According to the report, Dr. Weisenthal has discovered that, under some circumstances, artery-forming cells, called endothelial cells, die in a special way that involves release of highly calcified micro-particles. These escape from dying endothelial cells and trigger the body’s normal immune response. This causes inflammation within the blood vessel and narrows the opening through which blood flows.

Scientists understand that arteries do not literally become clogged with fat, like sludge in an old sewer pipe. Instead, the wall of the artery undergoes an apparent thickening as part of an inflammatory process. But what causes the inflammation to occur? That is exactly the mystery Dr. Weisenthal has unraveled. He contends that MCED is the cause of arterial inflammation.

Until now, no theory fully explained the perplexing mysteries of heart disease. Why do some people who eat all the “wrong” foods live long, healthy lives while other people whose diets appear ideal have heart problems? Why do some people with sky-high cholesterol counts have squeaky-clean arteries while other people, with “good” cholesterol levels, suffer narrowing of the arteries, heart attack, and stroke? Clearly, cholesterol seems to be a factor but, just as clearly, it is not the most important factor.

According to Dr. Weisenthal, MCED explains everything.

Dr. Weisenthal’s laboratory experiments have shown that certain chemicals such as cholesterol can indeed cause MCED to occur – but not in everyone. Dr. Weisenthal has shown that blood drawn from different persons varies widely in the ability to prevent MCED from occurring. He says this probably is due to substances – called factors – that are contained in the blood.

Dr. Weisenthal believes it will be possible to isolate MCED-inhibiting factors in the blood and then develop drugs that mimic them. Conceivably, persons at risk for atherosclerosis could be identified through a simple blood test. Such persons would then receive a daily pill to inhibit MCED and prevent the narrowing of arteries.

“That’s the importance of this work,” says Dr. Weisenthal, “It answers the most important questions relating to the genesis of atherosclerosis and identifies the target for specific drugs to prevent and treat it.”

Importantly, only endothelial cells are subject to this particular form of cell death. No other cell Dr. Weisenthal has tested can be made to die in exactly this way. This is additional, strong support for his theory.

The report is available online at http://biorxiv.org/content/early/2014/07/15/007112 .

The discovery itself and the story behind it are featured at this web address: http://vasocell.com/ .

Triangle Parenting Solutions Now Offering a New Class for Divorced Parents

Jennifer Viemont

RALEIGH, N.C., May 6, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE)) — Triangle Parenting Solutions today announced that it has started a new class that will give divorced parents a way to reduce the negative effects the divorce has on their children.

“Co-parenting after a divorce is not an instinctual skill so when parents separate or divorce children often suffer tremendously,” said Jennifer Viemont, LCSW and president of Triangle Parenting Solutions.

According to a recent study by the National Center for Health Statistics, 60 percent of marriages for couples between the ages of 20 and 25 end in divorce. In addition, 50 percent of all marriages in which the brides are 25 or older result in a failed marriage.

Viemont explained that, though she is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, her four-week parenting course entitled: Parenting through Divorce: Reducing the Negative Effects on Your Children is not therapy.

“The class has a skill based and solution focused curriculum. Since the sessions are private, we are able to individualize and apply the content to the parents’ specific situation,” Viemont said.

The availability of the new class for divorced parents to help with co-parenting issues could have perfect timing.

According to the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, teenage children of divorce are three times more likely to need psychological help within a given year.

In addition, the study concluded, children from divorced homes have more psychological problems, than children from which one of the parents has died. This is an indication that the transitions involved with divorce and solving co-parenting issues should not only be a concern, but also addressed with professional help.

Parenting through Divorce: Reducing the Negative Effects on Your Children:

Divorce, Viemont noted, enables parents to develop a completely new skill set for parenting. Viemont added that even when only one parent takes the course the children still benefit, however the most ideal situation involves both parents taking it. As a way to encourage both parents learning these skills, Viemont offers a complimentary fifth session that is complimentary when both parents sign up for the four individual class session.

As to what makes this class different from everything else on the market, Viemont pointed out that there are few if any other resources that are useful to separated parents of varying conflict levels and that is also customized to their individual circumstances.

“Sometimes people can find group classes for co-parenting, but that is not customized like mine is,” Viemont said. “My background in mental health and coaching enable me to help parents focus on the actions they can take to help their children.”

Parents who enroll into the class will become trained on topics, which include: Keeping the kids out of the middle; Handling transitions; Creating two homes; Realigning your relationship; Setting boundaries; Conflict resolution, and Anger management.

Class sessions are held at Triangle Parenting Solutions’ Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, or Cary offices or through video conference. The fee for the course is $375.

About Jennifer Viemont – Triangle Parenting Solutions:

Jennifer Viemont, LCSW, is the president of Triangle Parenting Solutions and serves as a Certified Parenting Coordinator and Parenting Consultant. She received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Loyola University Chicago and a Master of Social Work from University of Illinois at Chicago. Studies Conclude Mindfulness Treats Addiction More Effectively Than Traditional Treatments

Kiloby Center

PALM SPRINGS, Calif., April 29, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Experts say the results of two recent studies found a mindfulness approach to treating addiction helped more people kick habits long-term, in some cases, over four times the success rate from traditional treatment methods. “I’m delighted to read about this study. But it doesn’t surprise me. Having worked in many different treatment programs through the years, I find mindfulness to be the most effective approach,” says Scott Kiloby of the Kiloby Center.

Researchers at the Yale University School of Medicine found that smokers who received mindfulness training versus a widely used American Lung Association program, were more likely to have quit smoking both short and long-term.

Mindfulness is an approach that helps bring attention into the present moment, working through behaviors as opposed to avoiding them. This is the primary focus of The Kiloby Center for Recovery located in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

In another study, University of Washington researchers looked at alcohol and substance abuse addition. Once again, findings revealed those participants who used a mindfulness approach for treatment were at lower risk for resuming drug and alcohol use.

Kiloby says, “These new findings come on the heels of other studies from the last few years showing how effective mindfulness is. This illuminates the sea change happening right now in addiction treatment. I’ve been developing more advanced forms of mindfulness called the ‘Living Inquiries,’ which we use at the Kiloby Center for Recovery. We are finding great success and are doing our own studies at this time.”

Harvard Medical School psychiatrist, Michael Craig Miller, M.D., writes that both studies show evidence is building that mindfulness is a tool to help people quit addictions. Additional details on the study can be found in this article: http://bit.ly/1mSQFVz .

Weitz and Luxenberg – Jury Awards $9 Billion to Diabetic Put at Cancer Risk by Actos

NY LAW

NEW YORK CITY, N.Y., April 9, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — A Louisiana jury has awarded $9 billion to a New York man who developed bladder cancer after taking Actos, Weitz & Luxenberg announced today. The verdict, issued Monday night, orders Takeda Pharmaceuticals to pay $6 billion in punitive damages, and Eli Lilly to pay $3 billion.

Plaintiff Terrence Allen, a New York resident, was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2011 after taking Actos for more than four years. Mr. Allen and wife Susan brought the suit against Takeda, a Japanese pharmaceutical group, and Lilly, a pharmaceutical company based in Indianapolis, claiming the companies failed to warn that taking the drug could increase the risk of cancer. Mr. Allen’s case was the first lawsuit filed in the Actos Multi-District Litigation.

Actos, which was manufactured by Takeda and marketed in the U.S. by Lilly, has been widely used since 1999 by diabetics to control blood sugar levels. The drug is FDA-approved, but several safety studies have revealed a link between the drug and an increased risk for bladder cancer.

Allen’s suit claimed that Takeda and Lilly continued to manufacture and market the drug despite learning of the drug’s danger and failed to relay the bladder cancer risk to the medical community.

The verdict, delivered by a jury of eight, found Takeda and Lilly responsible and issued the $9 billion verdict. The verdict also ordered $1.475 million in compensatory damages.

The trial (Allen et al. v. Takeda Pharmaceutical Co., # 6:12-cv-00064) was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana.

Four Seasons Chaplain and Grief Counselor Michael Lee Shares 10 Ways to Cope with Loss During the Holidays

Michael Lee HIGHLANDS, N.C., Nov. 26, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Individuals who have recently lost a loved one may find Thursday’s ritual of Thanksgiving and the onslaught of the holiday season to be constant reminders of their loss. “In order to cope, it’s important to meet grief where it is,” says expert Michael Lee, a chaplain and grief counselor with the western North Carolina offices of Four Seasons Compassion for Life.

Grief occurs as the natural response to the loss of relationship when a person’s hopes for the future are taken away. When something or someone about which one has hopes is taken away, grief results.

“When you have an ongoing practice of thanksgiving, not a one-time ritual, it feeds your soul and gratitude comes,” he says.

Lee knows first-hand the power of grief. A former New York stock trader, he watched in disbelief from his vantage point in Battery Park City as the first plane hit tower one on Sept. 11, 2001. In the aftermath, he suffered from post traumatic stress disorder, endured the grief and loss of a primary relationship, and attended seminary instead of working on Wall Street.

What he found is that everything is a trigger: music, commercials, photographs, and more.

“Essentially, you’re an open target. When it’s new and fresh…you’re just vulnerable and it hurts.”

Lee recommends the active cultivation of the habit of gratitude in the midst of grief as a way to cope. Here is his personal list of how-to strategies designed to help navigate the holiday season:
1. Seek perspective. The mind may play tricks, so gratitude offers perspective – and an exit from the prison of self-condemnation resulting from wondering if different choices could change the outcome.

2. Allow yourself to move on. “One of the interesting things about grief is that the loss can cause a person to feel numb. Sometimes, they become afraid to move on from grief, from the last intense feeling or connection,” he says.

3. Express gratitude for the person you’ve lost. “Gratefulness or gratitude keeps the relationship alive. You’ll no longer have the relationship you did, but gratitude will assuage feelings of guilt or abandonment, help you see them in a new way, and hold them in a place of life-giving emotion – not oppressive emotion.”

4. Choose comfort wisely. “Everyone will go to their place of comfort,” he says. An alcoholic, for example, may choose alcohol. “We may need to find new types of comfort.”

5. Do nothing. “If you don’t want to cook, then don’t. If you don’t want to celebrate, then don’t. If it is your time to sit down or walk and grieve, then it is. Don’t do a single thing.”

6. Replace remembrance with honoring. “This is powerful because it means you’re honoring that relationship consistently. You can only honor a person.” Lee honors the memory of his Dad by treating his daughter the way his father treated him. “Honor you have to bring forward,” he says. “I’m embodying who he was with me.”

7. Keep memories alive. When one remarks upon how much Mom loved the corn pudding or Dad’s enjoyment of football, it places their memory and spirit there with you.

8. Seek and lend support. With support, healing occurs and broken hearts mend. “One of the most powerful things is when people dig down deep into their strength to help someone else. It’s absolutely beautiful.”

9. Find what helps, and ignore what doesn’t. “I ask people to notice if they’re in a place they don’t want to be in their grieving process, and encourage them to find a place that could help them.”

10. Ignore harmful advice. “We may have poor, imprisoning or toxic behaviors or philosophies regarding how to engage and reflect on grieving. It is best not to repress emotions,” says Lee.

Eventually, the tide of grief will turn, and the days will seem brighter once again.

“Souls at times of grief feel as though they’re at the bottom of the ocean where there is no sun, no sound, and a sense of heaviness. If one can shift thanksgiving to a practice, then eventually there will be a day when they will rise above the water,” he says.

Michael Lee is a grief counselor and chaplain with the Highlands office of Four Seasons Compassion for Life – http://www.fourseasonscfl.org/ – Flat Rock, N.C., serving patients in Henderson, Buncombe, Macon, Jackson, Swain and Transylvania counties and surrounding areas.

Right at Home Dayton honors caregivers during National Caregivers Appreciation Month

Michael Manes DAYTON, Ohio, Nov. 25, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — November is National Caregivers Appreciation Month; and Right at Home Dayton In-Home Care and Assistance is making sure their experienced and well-trained caregivers are recognized for their dedication and compassion. National Caregiver Appreciation Month aims to acknowledge those who dedicate their time to caring for others.

Michael Manes, Right at Home Dayton franchise owner, has nominated three of his experienced and dedicated caregivers for the Right at Home National Family Caregiver Award.

“Our organization could not have become a leader in this industry if not for the excellent service that our amazing staff has delivered. These nominations are our way of showing our employees that we value and appreciate the important work they do every day,” says Manes.

Care giving is demanding and can lead to fatigue. Caregiver burnout is a very real condition and affects nurses and caregivers in all healthcare and caring environments. Caregiver Burnout, also known as Compassion Fatigue, or secondary traumatic stress (STS), is characterized by a gradual lessening of compassion over time. It is a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion that may lead to a change in attitude from positive and caring to negative and unconcerned. Caregivers that are not receiving the help they need, or take on the responsibility of doing more than they are able to may experience burnout.

Caregivers may become overwhelmed with the physical, emotional, and financial toll that caring for a loved one at home carries. Those who are feeling rundown may experience the physical symptoms of fatigue, stress, anxiety, and depression. They may also experience feelings of guilt if they spend time on themselves rather than on their ill or elderly loved ones. The hectic demands of the holidays typically compound the stress and feelings of guilt.

Being able to rely on professional, compassionate respite care can ease the burden and stress of caring for a loved one, and bring the joy back to the holidays. Right at Home – Dayton, specializing in eldercare and respite care, has been an excellent resource for professional, quality, and affordable caregivers in the Greater Dayton area since 2005.

Respite care provides planned, short-term breaks for those who are caring for loved ones who might otherwise require permanent placement in a facility or nursing home. The purpose of respite care is to relieve stress, restore energy, and promote balance in order to maintain a healthy care giving relationship. It not only beneficial for the caregiver, but also provides a positive experience for the person receiving care. According to National Respite Coalition, respite care has been shown to reduce the likelihood of neglect and abuse for the patient, sustain the health and well being for the caregiver, and reduces the likelihood of divorce in the family.

It is no coincidence that November is National Caregivers Appreciation Month.

“The holidays are a great time to give a caregiver some recognition or at the very least a day off,” says Manes, “Those who selflessly devote their time to an elder or disabled individual demonstrate the true spirit of the holiday season.”

Kickstarter Project ‘Smile, You’re Living Longer’ Features Cartoon Signposts to Better Lifespans, Not Just Lengthier Ones

Dick Samson MOUNTAIN LAKES, N.J., Oct. 16, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Today EraNova Institute announces a Kickstarter crowdfunding project, “Smile, You’re Living Longer!” When completed, it will be an eBook of Long-Term Health CareToons(TM) that clarify life-improving choices for today’s longer-living seniors and working-age adults.

“A lifespan isn’t what it used to be,” says Dick Samson, EraNova’s Director, who will lead the project. “It’s no longer the old five-part drill: learn, earn, retire, decline, expire.” Since more of us are living into our 70′s, 80′s, 90′s, and beyond 100, and since we’re blessed with a growing range of health and lifestyle options, “It’s a whole new ballgame.”

Now, Samson points out, there are many ways to:
* Learn, but never stop learning,
* Earn longer if we need or want to,
* Pursue new dreams instead of retiring passively,
* Put off and minimize decline,
* Get a bang out of life up until the end.

“Most people haven’t tumbled to the most important new opportunities,” says Samson. “There’s a ton of information, but it’s scattered and often contradictory. Digesting it can be time-consuming and boring. That’s why I came up with CareToons(TM), to convey the most vital facts, weeding out the jargon and junk.”

The humorous presentation adds efficiency. “People just smile and get the point. It couldn’t be simpler.”

CareToons(TM) will help people:
* Look at thornier issues such as someday needing help with tasks of daily living (long-term care),
* Focus on key facts about diet, exercise, and lifestyle choices that promote extra years of productivity.
* Explore today’s senior-living options, ranging from culture-rich assisted-living communities to modifications of one’s current home,
* Review the many ways to pay for quality senior living and care,
* Access the cornucopia of life-enriching options for those who stay active and involved.

Unlike self-help, Samson’s approach never prescribes. It informs through pleasant bursts of insight.

Although aimed at consumers, the CareToons(TM) may also be used by professionals to make points with clients or constituents. These pros include healthcare providers, suppliers of health-promoting services or products, insurance agents, financial advisers, managers of senior-living and home-care services, community leaders, and public policy makers.

For the project description and sample CareToons(TM), visit the Kickstarter page: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/23182138/smile-youre-living-longer .

With brevity and ebullience, the project will touch on many of today’s hottest issues: healthcare, health reform, Obamacare, long-term care insurance, prevention and preventive medicine, mental health, Alzheimer’s disease, food and nutrition, exercise and fitness, environmental health, wellness and wellness programs, incomes for people of all ages, the politics of wealth and poverty, and more.

Resolving Tensions and Painful Conditions – Holistic Wellbeing Through Progressive Muscle Relaxation

The mental trainer Carola Riss-Tafilaj from Munich has developed a relaxation regime that is easy to learn, and, with regular practice, brings about a holistic feeling of wellbeing: all that is necessary is to apply the principle of tensing specific muscle groups before they are relaxed.

Resolving Tensions and Painful Conditions - Holistic Wellbeing Through Progressive Muscle Relaxation
CD Progressive Muscle Relaxation

Munich, 22.07.2013 – Everyone knows and feels it. The fast pace of modern life strains not only our nerves, but also our muscles. Stress, the rush to get everything done, heavy physical work, just as well as lack of exercise during the work day can lead to very unpleasant tensions in the whole body. The consequences are: discomfort, aches and pains, problems with the intervertebral discs, with joints and nerves. But what can you do, when problems and stress have relentlessly become entrenched in the muscles?

An entrepreneur from Munich has devoted herself to this widespread problem area and developed a relaxation regime which enables the user to achieve full relaxation in every muscle group of the body with an easy, comfortable technique.
Using her CD, which contains an introduction, a beautiful, relaxing background sound and the detailed instructions, the listeners can put themselves into a state of deep relaxation. And the CD also provides the option to work with this relaxation technique in either the short or the long version.

“Progressive muscle relaxation is a scientifically approved method for releasing tensions”, says Carola Riss-Tafilaj , author of the CD-Project “Progressive Muscle Relaxation after E. Jacobson” and managing director of Frequenzia Music World. “By means of concentration the users are taken on a little journey through their own body, in much the same way as in autogenic training. But in the process, the listeners are directed to deliberately focus on specific muscle groups in their body. These muscle groups are first tensed, then the tension is held for several seconds, and finally the tension is released. The basic aim here is that the users can develop a whole new body awareness so that they are sensitive both to the tensing up and letting go; they will thereby be able to feel themselves and their body with a deeper awareness in the future.”

This method is based on the procedure developed by the American physician and physiologist Edmund Jacobson, who discovered that the deliberate and mindful tensing and releasing of specific muscle groups is one of the most effective methods of relaxation.

“This is an ideal alternative to get to know yourself and your body in a new way”, says the mind trainer. “Also, the method is a further step in stimulating a lasting process of self-healing. You will notice that if you practice regularly, renewed tensions have little chance of establishing themselves”.

The CD ” Progressive Muscle Relaxation after E. Jacobson ” has a duration of over 60 minutes and will be available for sale from the 22.07.2013.

SKY5X II – the transfer table for 3D implant planning – simplified and long-lasting

SKY5X II - the transfer table for 3D implant planning - simplified and long-lasting
SKY5X II, the transfer table for 3D implant planning by bredent

Durability is a success factor for companies and it means continuous development. The bredent components as well as the therapy concepts are improving consistently – also in the area of 3D implant planning, because the second generation of the transfer table for manufacturing drilling templates with SKY5X II is now ready and it integrates the knowledge of long-term experience and feedback from the whole world.

In particular, the idea was to implement the wish of simplifying the transfer table further. This wish has been fulfilled by bredent: The new transfer table SKY5X II is even better suited for the prepared fitting jobs in the model, as the stroke distance was increased considerably. The resulting increased work area simplifies the work, saves time and therefore money. To increase compactness and safety, the scales “black on white” are bigger and they can be read from the top – this guarantees the correct adjustment of all parameters. Further, the drilling arm with a counter weight and an integrated tool depression enable easier handling. The solid structure requires very little maintenance, is permanently accurate and is a guarantee for long life.

BioHPP – A new material class in dental prosthetic

High-performance polymers belong to the future – in dentistry too. You therefore increasingly find perfect dental implant prosthetic solutions through new, innovative materials and technologies. With its competency in plastics, bredent will display concepts around BioHPP at the IDS 2013.

BioHPP - A new material class in dental prosthetic

BioHPP is a material developed to meet the requirements of dental prosthetics, whose predecessors are being used successfully in human medicine for more than 30 years as spinal intermediate bodies, knuckle joints and hip joint prosthetics, so that their bio-compatibility and mechanical properties are already tried and tested. These high-performance polymers have high long-term stability and low water retention.

Thanks to the white colour “White Shade” and its physiological elasticity in the area of bones, BioHPP is particularly good as framework material for small and big high-value fittings. The remarkable strength, the optimum polish and the low affinity to plaque formation are very impressive.

bredent offers two different options of processing:

- BioHPP as milling blank with special cutter for the manufacture of prosthetic fittings in the common CAD/CAM processes.
- Processing of BioHPP by means of a pressing procedure, through the for 2 press system, a specially developed vacuum pressing device.

The wide visio.lign range of pre-fabricated or customized veneering materials are available for the veneering of BioHPP, which is bonded to the BioHPP with the help of a special primer having the highest possible shear resistance.

Another very interesting indication is the manufacture of individual abutments with the help of the over-pressing technology in the for 2 press system. Here, the abutment is modelled and finally over-pressed individually according to the shape of the tooth on the SKY elegance Titanium base. A homogeneous bonding takes place between the Titanium base and BioHPP, which is absolutely free of gaps and has the best possible mechanical properties. The “Off-Peak” property (shock absorption) cushions the load transfer to the implant. The abutment is also suitable for immediate loading. The white colour ensures that no dark shadows show through the gingiva. Opaques are therefore not required any more. The SKY elegance abutments can be veneered directly with visio.lign, or provided with ceramic or metal crowns and bridges.

In short, the innovative material BioHPP offers new possibilities of fitting patients with fixed and removable high-value dental prosthetics on implants or natural teeth – from individual abutments to telescoping prosthetics.

breCAM.BioHPP blanks – the material of the future

With BioHPP, a new material group for permanently fixed or removable dentures (Medicine Product Class IIa, CE 0583), bredent opens up absolutely new application options, especially in the area of metal-free dental prosthetics. This new material also offers an ideal integration in the CAD/CAM System CAELO and other open CNC systems.

breCAM.BioHPP blanks - the material of the future
breCAM.BioHPP blanks by bredent

breCAM.BioHPP is a CAD/CAM blank produced from BioHPP and it is available as round blank with indentation (98mm Ø x 16/20/24mm). BioHPP is a material on a base of ceramics-strengthened polyether ether ketone “PEEK”. It has been in use in human medicine for more than 30 years successfully for spinal column intermediate body and hip joint prosthesis. It offers excellent bio-compatibility and has a bone-like flexibility which makes it ideal for use in implant-supported dental prosthetics (Off-Peak Effect). In addition to the outstanding physical and chemical material properties as well as the non-abrasive effect on antagonists. The white framework colour delivers perfect results in the Red-White Aesthetics. breCAM.BioHPP can be used as material for monolithic dentures and can also be used with suitable composites in veneers. Thanks to the optimum polish and low affinity to plaque formation, BioHPP is ideal for the manufacture of high-value dental prosthetic
supplies. As thermoplastic materials require appropriate tools for dry processing, the breCAM.cutter should be used especially for this application.

“COEVO” – abutments for external systems

Sustainable solutions are characterized by flexibility. Following this basic idea, bredent developed “COEVO” the new prosthetics on implants.

“COEVO” is a fully innovative approach in the area of the implant abutment family. This continuously growing abutment family opens up totally new implant prosthetic concepts for the implant prosthetics and implantology technicians in connection with the use of new materials.

With their special process technology, these totally new abutments offer maximum freedoms and flexibilities not only to the users of bredent medical SKY implant systems, but also to the users of other implant systems. At present, they are benefiting implant users of the companies Straumann® (Bone Level), Astra-Tech® (OsseoSpeed TX) and Nobel Biocare® (NobelActive).

The names of the new abutments “COEVO” are:

- uni.cone
- uni.cone XL
- elegance
- TiSi.snap

The motive force behind the development was the increase in economy and product safety for dental and implantology technicians. The idea is to use as much as necessary and as little as possible for customization and simultaneously the high product and material safety through industrial pre-fabrication.

The option of working with CAD/CAM applications is always available. It doesn’t matter which material is being used. Above all, the dental technician has the option of leaving the entire value creation process to the dental laboratory. Of course, he can work with tried and tested methods and use and offer innovative materials without establishing new process techniques in the laboratory.

For example, the “elegance abutment” made of the high-performance composite BioHPP: It can be used in the well-known press technique and also as fabricated abutment.

This material and this process technology are the clinching argument against the painful “chipping” subject in implant prosthetics. An intelligent bonding technique is used to paste highly interconnected composite veneering shells manufactured under high pressure on the framework quickly and safely. The initial masticating pressure on the implant borne tooth replacement is reduced by approx. 50%.

The advantage of high product safety through industrially prefabricated abutments made of Titanium, like the TiSi.Snap abutment or the uni.cone abutment allows the dental technician to offer very economical prosthetic solutions. It even enables implantology technicians and/or dentists, to implement these economical solutions on the dentist’s chair in the practice immediately – in some cases without sending the work to the dental laboratory.

The extension of the prosthetic spectrum for the dental laboratory and the user is the most crucial utility of this abutment family – with regard to a high material- and product stability and in connection with a safe and mature process technology.

The dental technician can plan the prosthetics on an individual case basis, and therefore offer the CAD/CAM method or an individual, analogous solution. Besides, he can use the industrially fabricated abutments with their tried and tested advantages.
