Fujitsu Expands its Line of 8-bit Microcontrollers to Include Products with Built-in Capacitive Touch Sensor and Controller Functions
Optimised for touch key and touch panel applications in electronic systems and household appliances

Fujitsu’s
Langen, Germany, 26 June, 2012 – Fujitsu Semiconductor Europe (FSEU) today announced the addition of new products with capacitive touch sensor and controller functionality to its “New 8FX” family of high-performance 8-bit microcontrollers. The new products from the MB95870, MB95860 and MB95850 series are being offered as low-cost, low-power microcontroller options for controlling the capacitive touch keys and touch panels used in a wide range of products sold worldwide, from household appliances to office equipment and electronic systems.
To date, capacitive touch sensor technology has typically been used in applications such as cash points and train station TVMs (Ticket Vending Machines) or in office equipment such as copiers and printers. In recent years, however, capacitive touch sensor technology has experienced rapid growth, driven by the spread of touch key and touch panel applications in household appliances – such as in refrigerators and washing machines, for example. When compared to mechanical switches or resistive film touch key technology, capacitive touch key technology is not only easier for users to operate but is also more resistant to dust, moisture and wear. This array of features has made the capacitive method the preferred choice in touch key technology. As the marketplace for touch key and touch panel interfaces expands, the demand for capacitive touch sensors and controllers to drive this technology is also increasing. In addition, there is a strong demand for the microcontrollers for such systems to be equipped with touch sensor and controller functionality.
The MB95870, MB95860 and MB95850 series are tailored to meet these demands. These series offer power-efficient microcontrollers with 36KB of built-in flash memory in a range of packages. Complementing the highly sensitive and highly reliable capacitive touch sensor and controller functionality (based on specific, hardware-implemented IP), these microcontrollers include various timer and communication functions that are useful both for general-purpose applications and for peripheral circuits – such as A/D converters and analogue comparators.
Samples of 24 new products in the MB95650 Series will also begin shipping in parallel with the above series. With 1KB of flash memory capacity in a 24-pin package, MB95650 Series products are also equipped with peripheral circuits, such as 12-bit high-precision A/D converters, I2C-bus interfaces, and LIN-UART. These products can also handle a wide range of operating voltages and are able to run on power supply voltages ranging from 1.8 to 5.5 volts.
Product Overview
Highly sensitive and highly reliable capacitive touch technology (MB95870, MB95860, MB95850 series)
These three series employ Adjacent Pattern Interference Suppression (APIS?) and Automatic Impedance Calibration(AIC?) features. By utilising a dedicated hardware IP for capacitive touch functionality, the burden on software is reduced while also enabling use in a variety of different environments. In each series, the number of channels for touch sensors ranges from 5 to 12, offering a wealth of options to match a range of operational scenarios.
Embedding analogue functions reduces external component count
Since an internal CR oscillating circuit (running the operating clock), low-voltage detection circuit (detects voltage drops)and analogue comparator (with reference voltage) are built into the microcontrollers, this eliminates the need for an
external oscillator, reset IC and operational amplifier, thus contributing to a reduction in external components. The CR oscillator has a precision level of ±2%.
High-performance flash memory with industry-leading write/erase performance
The microcontrollers are fitted with industry-leading high-performance flash memory capable of 100,000 write/erase cycles. In addition, a flash security function protects the customer’s software from access by unauthorised external programs.
Availability
Sample quantities of MB95870 Series products will start shipping immediately.

Energy-link between Africa and Europe
Morocco”s major energy event in 2012 with full institutional backing

elec expo & EneR Event 2011,Youssef Tagmouti, President of FENELEC with representatives of CAFELEC
The recent duty free agreement on industrial goods between Morocco and the EU, steady economic growth amounting to 4% and extensive governmental support in the renewable energy sector. All this makes Morocco a growth market concerning renewable and conventional energies. Morocco”s leading energy exhibition, the 7th elec expo, the 2nd EneR Event and the 1st Tronica Expo are scheduled to take place at the Casablanca International Fairgrounds – OFEC from 17 to 20 October 2012. This regional hub is organised by FENELEC, the Moroccan Federation of Electricity, Electronics and Renewable Energies, in close cooperation with the German trade fair specialists fairtrade and their Moroccan partners Forum 7.
The importance of this exhibition for Morocco”s transition from an energy importer to an exporter is reflected by its full institutional backing. elec expo, EneR Event & Tronica Expo 2012 enjoy the official support of the Moroccan Ministry of Energy and Mines, Water and Environment, of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and New Technologies and of the lately created Ministry of Building, Urban Development and Regional Planning. As in 2011, the event benefits of a Hosted Buyers” Program, which FENELEC will realise in cooperation with CAFELEC and Maroc Export, the governmental Moroccan Center for Export Promotion. A budget covering the expenses for travel and accommodation has been allocated to invite more than 50 African buyers of fourteen countries, both public and private buyers.
Since 1 March 2012 the EU Association Agreement is fully implemented. This will cause a significant liberalisation in trading industry goods. Like this the Moroccan progress of reforms is rewarded by the international community. Imports of European industry goods to Morocco are duty free from now on (source: GTAI). In 2011, 5,246 registered trade visitors from 52 countries and 213 exhibitors (+88%) from 18 countries discussed business. FENELEC”s president Mr Youssef Tagmouti is quite confident to continue the success story of Morocco”s and Africa”s major energy, electrical engineering and electronics event in 2012.
An increase of the above mentioned figures for this year”s edition is expected by the organisers, as France will be the Guest of Honor in 2012. “Without any doubt this event helps to further develop the economic and commercial ties between our two countries” underlines Henri Baissas, Deputy Director General and Director of Operations at UBIFRANCE, the French Trade Commission. Due to investments in the electro-technical sector amounting to one billion Euros, Morocco is one of the most important markets abroad for French companies, UBIFRANCE states on its website.
GTAI recently announced an increase of the German exports to Morocco amounting 10.7% in 2011. A major share of this is accounted for equipment for generating and distributing electricity, with an increase of 34% up to 111 million Euros. According to Martin Maerz, Managing Director with fairtrade, there still is huge potential in the field of renewables, benefitting from the climatic conditions, the extensive governmental support. Adds Ahmed Squalli, President of AMISOLE, the Moroccan Association for solar and wind industries: “Foreign companies should recognize the potential and take their opportunities to promote their products and ideas through a participation in this exhibition”.

Fujitsu Expands Line of New 8FX 8-bit Microcontrollers for DC Motor Control
Optimized for industrial applications, home appliances, consumer electronics and power tools

Fujitsu?s new 8FX 8-bit microcontrollers for DC motor control are optimized for industrial applications, home appliances, consumer electronics and power tools.
Langen, Germany, 14 June 2012 – Fujitsu Semiconductor Europe (FSEU) today announced the expansion of its “New 8FX” family of high-performance 8-bit microcontrollers to include nine new products from the 48-pin MB95690 series, featuring brushless DC motor control functionality, and six products from the 64-pin MB95810 series, featuring analogue comparator technology. As low-cost and low-power microcontrollers, products from both series offer “right-sized” solutions for a wide range of applications, including home appliances, home electronics, personal care products, power tools and office automation equipment.
Brushless DC motors are superior in terms of their noiselessness and their long life expectancy. Since such motors account for a significant percentage of a product”s overall cost, there is significant demand for lower cost microcontrollers to control brushless DC motors. In addition, there is also considerable demand for microcontrollers that can support relatively high-end products requiring fine-grained system control, such as temperature sensors, light sensors and other applications that monitor a range of environmental parameters for a device. Moreover, the increasing focus in recent years on reducing the power consumption of electronics products has generated growing pressure to reduce power consumption to the minimum for standby and normal operation modes.
The MB95690 series meets all of these demands. Presented in a 48-pin package with 60 KB of built-in flash memory, it is a power-efficient microcontroller that not only includes brushless DC motor control functionality, but various timers and communications functions that are useful both for general-purpose applications and peripheral circuits. MB95810 series products offer up to 60 KB of flash memory capacity in a 64-pin package, and are also equipped with peripheral circuits, such as up to 12 channels of high-precision A/D converters and an analogue comparator with reference voltage. Both series also enable the use of fewer system components and can also run large-scale processing programs. One typical application is as a power-efficient system management microcontroller for system and power management.
Product Overview
Built-in DC brushless motor controller (MB95690 Series)
A multi-pulse generator for DC motor control enables the generation of a three-phase PWM waveform for controlling a brushless DC motor. It can be used for a range of brushless DC motors.
Embedding external components reduces the component count
Since these microcontrollers feature an embedded internal CR oscillating circuit (running the operating clock), low-voltage detection circuit (for detecting voltage drops) and analogue comparator with reference voltage, this eliminates the need for an external oscillator, reset IC and operational amplifier and contributes to a reduction in external components. The CR oscillator has a precision level of ±2 per cent.
High-performance flash memory with industry-leading re-write/read ability
The microcontrollers feature embedded industry-leading high-performance flash memory capable of 100,000 rewrite/read cycles. A flash security feature also protects the customer’s software from unauthorized external program access.
Availability
Sample quantities of these new products will begin shipping from June 2012.

OxBlue Offers Upgrade Incentives to Existing Customers
ATLANTA, Ga., May 30, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — OxBlue, a leader in the construction camera industry, announced today an incentive program for existing clients to maximize the value they receive from their OxBlue construction camera service. “We want to ensure that our clients have access to the right construction webcam system for the projects they are building today,” stated Chandler McCormack, President of OxBlue. “It’s why we’ve developed a range of options to enable our customers to upgrade to the right system that meets their needs at a minimal difference in cost.”
Through the upgrade program, OxBlue’s clients can:
* Upgrade their current camera to a higher resolution or PTZ construction camera. Users can trade in their existing hardware and pay only the difference in cost between the two systems plus a small increase in the monthly service fee.
* Upgrade their camera to use solar power at no charge when purchasing a solar power station.
* Refurbish their existing OxBlue construction camera system, often at no cost at all.
A few examples of how these upgrade options can be put into practice:
* A client could upgrade from a 4- to a 6-megapixel system, which provides a 50 percent increase in resolution for less than a 10 percent increase in price.
* If a client using a fixed position OxBlue camera wins a large project, rather than purchasing a second camera to cover the entire jobsite, they can trade in their existing camera for full credit towards OxBlue’s megapixel robotic PTZ camera. They pay for the difference in hardware and service, while avoiding the cost of a second camera.
* A client can purchase an OxBlue solar power station to save money, take advantage of the 30 percent federal tax credit or add some points to their LEED certification. The client sends their existing construction webcam back to OxBlue, and it is configured for use with the solar power station at no additional cost.
* After using a camera on several projects, a client can send the camera back to OxBlue and have it refurbished into like-new condition, often at no cost. The construction camera is then ready for the next project.
For more information on the various upgrade options available, please contact OxBlue at (888) 849-2583.

Fujitsu Announces Web-Based Design Simulation Tool “Easy DesignSim” for Power Management ICs
New online design simulation tool helps engineers save time and money when developing power management ICs

?Easy DesignSim? helps engineers save time and money when developing power management ICs.
Langen, Germany – April 17, 2012 – Fujitsu Semiconductor Europe (FSEU) today launched “Easy DesignSim?”, a web-based design simulator for power management ICs (PMICs). “Easy DesignSim” offers comprehensive online design simulation and support for design engineers working with Fujitsu”s extensive line of power management ICs, such as converters, switches, power supplies and charge control devices. This approach can significantly accelerate the development of consumer electronics and portable devices, as well as products for the medical electronics and office automation markets. The tool is the result of a collaborative venture between Fujitsu and Transim Technology Corporation.
“”Easy DesignSim” can save our customers a significant amount of time in the power management design process,” says Wolf Fronauer, Manager Marketing & Application, Business Unit Automotive & Embedded at Fujitsu Semiconductor Europe. “Engineers can use the simulator to validate or test their designs and power configurations right from the Fujitsu website. In line with our philosophy of delivering “right-sized” solutions – and not merely hardware components – this new tool accelerates our customers” time-to-market by keeping quality high while minimising design and test time.”
By simplifying circuit diagram design for power supplies, “Easy DesignSim” offers engineers an effective way to select the right PMIC and substantially shorten the development process. The tool calculates key power parameters such as input/output voltages, load currents, efficiency and switching frequency automatically, and then simulates the operation of the power supply online. It”s then a simple matter for engineers to see how the simulation reacts in the generated circuit diagram when they change operating conditions and external component parameters.
After selecting a power management solution, engineers can use “Easy DesignSim” to generate a bill of materials (BOM) matching the project requirements and circuit diagram from the databases of electronics parts vendors. The design engineer can then export the BOM as a Microsoft Excel or Adobe PDF file.
Availability
“Easy DesignSim” can be accessed from the Fujitsu website as of today. The tool initially provides simulation support for several of Fujitsu”s most popular PMICs, with more devices to be added. A comprehensive user guide gives step-by-step instructions for using “Easy DesignSim”.

SecuGen and BridgePoint Systems Collaborate to Create TrustPoint 3-Factor, PIV Compliant, Physical Access Control Device
SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 21, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — SecuGen and BridgePoint Systems are collaborating to introduce the new TrustPoint 3-Factor Biometric Reader, BridgePoint’s flexible solution. The new Reader offers a variety of security options including biometric, PIN and optional PKI challenge-response authentication for increasing or decreasing the level of security, depending on the user’s requirements. The new Reader will be available for preview at SecuGen’s booth, number 18139, at next week’s ISC West 2012 exhibition in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The TrustPoint 3-Factor Biometric Reader contains SecuGen’s PIV compliant fingerprint OEM module, the SDA04, and is the only device of its kind that is Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) compatible. It is designed to authenticate Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credentials and mitigate electronic cloning. Attackers who otherwise could make a copy of a PIV credential and then build a clone will not be able to do so when BridgePoint’s TrustPoint 3-Factor Biometric Reader is in-place. The attacker cannot copy the private keys that are required to achieve a cryptographic PKI challenge-response, which the BridgePoint Reader is uniquely configured to verify. As a result, attackers are not able to succeed when it comes to getting past either the Personal or Card Authentication Key (PAK and CAK) mechanisms.
The TrustPoint 3-Factor Biometric Reader features an advanced, weather-resistant, slim-line design, a user friendly telephone-style keypad, a bright 2 line by 16 character display, a stainless steel conduit port, a USB programming port and dual tamper switches for detecting unauthorized removal.
“When designing this state-of-the-art reader, we were drawn to SecuGen’s fingerprint sensors and OEM modules,” said Thomas E. Corder, president and CEO of BridgePoint Systems. “We felt the technology was unmatched due to its high quality and reasonable pricing structure. “We are very pleased to work with SecuGen and look forward to a long relationship between our two companies.”
Jeff Brown, VP of Sales for SecuGen added, “The TrustPoint 3-Factor Biometric Reader is truly unique in its ability to present a cryptographic PKI challenge-response. We are excited about the prospects for this product.”
Won Lee, CEO of SecuGen stated, “Our goal has always been to deliver reliable, accurate, and affordable products for our developer partners. We are very pleased with BridgePoint Systems’ new Reader and we are honored to play a part in bringing this new product to market.”
About BridgePoint Systems:
For more than a decade, BridgePoint Systems has delivered solutions to help security managers face an ever-changing landscape of threats and challenges. Located at the edge of Silicon Valley, the company offers innovative technology that embeds public key infrastructure in an agile, user friendly way for assuring identity in physical access systems. Among other pioneering efforts, BridgePoint Systems was the first U.S. company to develop smart card readers for use by the Department of Defense in a physical access system. The company was also first to integrate the Department of Defense’s CAC with biometrics in a real world deployment and first to install an interoperable Personal Identification Verification reader in a government, multi-tenant facility.
Some of the nation’s largest government contractors and security integrators such as the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Marines, Army Corps of Engineers, General Services Administration (GSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) use BridgePoint Systems’ technology. All of BridgePoint Systems’ products are securely designed and built in the United States. Fresh and Easy and Hill PHOENIX Collaborate on GreenChill Platinum Store in Folsom, CA
FOLSOM, Calif., March 14, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Hill PHOENIX, a designer and manufacturer of commercial refrigeration equipment, and Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market are pleased to announce the grand opening of a new GreenChill Platinum Award-winning Fresh & Easy store in Folsom, California. GreenChill is an E.P.A. Partnership with food retailers to reduce refrigerant emissions and decrease their impact on the ozone layer and climate change.
A typical supermarket in the U.S. uses approximately 3,500 pounds of refrigerant. The Fresh & Easy Folsom store uses just 70 pounds – a 98 percent reduction that earned it GreenChill’s highest award.
“Environmental responsibility is part of our DNA. We’ve made a commitment to invest in sustainable technologies from the start,” said Steve Hagen, director of procurement and engineering at Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market. “Using new natural refrigerants puts Fresh & Easy on the forefront of sustainability our industry and ultimately makes these emerging technologies more cost effective for everyone.”
“The Folsom store is a fantastic example of the innovation that can be accomplished when government works together with businesses in a voluntary partnership to protect the environment and save money at the same time,” said Deborah Jordan, Director of EPA Region 9′s Air Division. “We are proud to be involved in this very successful project.”
Fresh & Easy’s Folsom store features Hill PHOENIX Second Nature(R) medium temperature fixtures and walk-ins running on glycol and low temperature fixtures and walk-ins running on C02. Glycol and C02 are environmentally friendly, natural alternatives to harmful HFC refrigerants.
“Fresh & Easy selected a Second Nature Compact Chiller system that effectively eliminates all HFCs from the store’s refrigeration system by using medium temperature glycol to condense the low temperature CO2. This is typically achieved with an HFC refrigerant,” explained Henry Pellerin, director, marketing programs for Hill PHOENIX. “The Folsom Fresh & Easy is the only store in the nation, to date, that uses this innovative type of system.”
Hill PHOENIX Second Nature Compact Chiller (SNCC) is the most environmentally friendly system available in the industry today. SNCC utilizes a unique heat exchanger technology that allows engineers to design a typical medium temperature supermarket system with the lowest refrigeration charge of any commercial refrigeration system on the market. As a result, retailers like Fresh & Easy can achieve a sustainable zero leak rate. SNCC is comprised of multiple compact chiller modules. Each module is a standalone refrigeration system and is completely factory-assembled, charged and run-tested prior to delivery.
GreenChill’s Store Certification Program is the only certification program in the nation that focuses on greener refrigeration. The Program’s chief goal is to reduce refrigerant emissions from supermarkets that damage the Earth’s protective ozone layer and contribute to global warming. A pound of leaked refrigerant can cause more global warming than 2000-4000 pounds of carbon dioxide.

Fresh & Easy uses LED lighting in external signs and freezer cases, offers customer recycling in every store and uses advanced refrigeration and freezer units to cut back on energy usage. The company also recycles or reuses all of its display packaging, sending the majority back through its distribution center.
